Job Title: Deputy Site Service Manager

Job Type: Contract to Hire (6 months)

Job Location: Houston, TX

Work Schedule: Onsite

We are looking for a Deputy Site Manager to join the Particle Therapy Division (PTD) located at MD. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston. The Deputy Site Manager will be responsible for managing the contracted on-site service activities related to maintaining required safety standards, reliability, and availability of Particle Beam Therapy (PBT) System. He/she will take the lead on necessary customer communications; including commercial discussions, management support and engineering interface. He/she will also be responsible for supervising the subcontractors with the goal of ensuring a successful service program.

Responsibilities:

  • On-Site Service Activities: Perform start-up and shut-down operations, preventive and corrective maintenance, equipment testing (including calibration and software testing), and troubleshooting for both equipment and related software.
  • Planning and Coordination: Manage all planning and close-out activities for individual service tasks, including scheduling, prioritization, parts assembly, workload forecasting, and procedure review.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Handle operations and maintenance documentation, quality assurance and control requirements, and managerial reporting.
  • Leadership and Mentoring: Provide leadership and mentorship to HPES service and support personnel, with a focus on Senior Service Technicians.
  • Procurement: Oversee the procurement of specialty subcontractors for outsourced services and manage other purchases necessary for operational efficiency.
  • Commercial Transactions: Manage customer billings, vendor payments, and other commercial transactions. Negotiate as needed to ensure timely payments from customers and competitive pricing from vendors.
  • Customer Interface: Address significant commercial and operational issues with customers, and perform overall program assessments to identify areas for improved coordination and efficiency.
  • Technical Interface: Collaborate with Japan-based Engineering division for technical support, including troubleshooting, procedure development, spare parts confirmation, configuration management, and document control.
  • Regulatory and Quality Assurance: Work with the Regulatory Assurance Quality Assurance Planning Manager to ensure compliance with customer contracts, budget control, subcontractor administration, maintenance scheduling, technical standards, quality assurance, configuration control, spare part management, document control, and program communications.
  • Recovery Operations: Lead recovery efforts following off-normal events.
  • System Knowledge: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Proton Beam Therapy System (PBTS), particularly at the system level.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Medical, or a related discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Physics, Information Technology, etc.) is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a managerial role or equivalent, including experience in:
    • Personnel supervision
    • Maintenance and operations
    • Radiation facilities (preferred)
    • Quality assurance and/or regulatory environments (preferred)
    • Service program start-ups or similar programmatic experience
    • Technical program management, including calibration, testing, preventive and corrective maintenance
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in Japanese (speaking, reading, and writing) is required for technical interactions with the engineering team in Japan.
  • Technical Experience: Experience with equipment such as particle accelerators, LINAC, MRI, CT, PET, X-Ray, or other radiation therapy or diagnostic equipment is preferred. Familiarity with CT imaging software, industrial or research electro-magnets, high-performance IGBT-based power supplies, multi-redundant digital control systems, precision particle radiation and positioning instrumentation, and vacuum systems is advantageous.

    • Availability for 24/7 maintenance work.
    • Flexibility for modified hours and on-call duties.
