The Asia and Pacific Department (Japan Division) has an opening for an Economist/Senior Economist to work on Japan. She/he will participate in Article IV missions and staff visits and be expected to carry out research and analysis on the Japanese economy, covering all sectors as needed. The selected candidate is expected to provide substantial input into policy analysis and contribute first-rate analytical work; contribute to or draft policy notes and staff reports; provide briefings and comments on Japan-related issues as well as on Fund-wide policy papers; and help organize and deliver outreach events.

The selected candidate will be expected to undertake research projects, including helping to draft the APD REO; contribute to the division’s regular macroeconomic, trade, and financial market surveillance activities; facilitate departmental collaboration on cross country and cluster work; help disseminate and implement strategic objectives of the department; and prepare surveillance committee and management briefings, as well as presentations. The selected candidate will have an opportunity to work closely with senior staff, including the Director and Deputy Director overseeing the division, as well as participate in outreach activities such as for the APD REO.

The selected candidate would also serve as lead desk economist to one of the countries covered by the Pacific Islands Division (PID).
