    Job Summary

    A world leader in English-language versions of manga and anime is seeking an Editor to join their Original Publishing team. The Editor is a bilingual Japanese/English editor who works with both Japanese and English-speaking creators to develop original and licensed manga for their originals imprint. The list encompasses original works by upcoming and established creators, and manga collaborations with pop culture partners.The primary responsibility is identifying new creators to develop original graphic novels, acquiring projects and seeing the development through from start to finish. The editor communicates directly with Japanese creators to help create works in English and translating for the Publishing team. Accurate translation of reference material from English into Japanese is required.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate in Japanese with creators from Japan on original manga creation
    • Work directly with creators to ensure high-quality project execution
    • Handle all editorial duties in the graphic novel production process
    • Scout skilled manga-style artists in Japanese and English
    • Manage freelance translators, editors, rewriters, and letterers
    • Address licensor requirements and secure publication approvals
    • Work with designers on cover creation and text layout
    • Write marketing copy and check promotional materials
    • Research and propose potential publishing acquisitions

    Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

    • 2-3 years of experience in comics/graphic novel publishing editorial
    • Fluent in Japanese and English with strong interpretation skills
    • Knowledge of manga and anime creative space
    • Experience managing graphic novel illustrators and authors
    • Story development and art direction experience
    • Strong writing, editing, and project management skills
    • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field or equivalent experience

    Additional Preferred Skills:

    • Knowledge of graphic novel publishing processes
    • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
    • Prior success in the publishing industry

    Work Environment & Schedule:

    • Location: Open to candidates in California
    • Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week) with some flexibility
