Department Overview:

The Americas Division (“AD”) was established in the Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited, New York Branch) (“SMTBNY”) to perform corporate functions and supervise U.S. entities. Established under the AD are the “Global Banking Unit (“GBU”), Americas Division” and “Global Markets Unit (“GMU”), Americas Division” which performs business functions. The Controllers Department (“CTR”) provides financial reporting to the Branch Management, the Head Office and Regulatory Authorities. Controllers are also responsible for the reconciliation of all Nostro accounts and other positions and US tax related matters.

Your Position Overview:

The Controllers Department (“CTR”) is seeking a Junior Accountant who will be responsible for the daily Nostro and bond reconciliation, daily monitoring of G/L movement, Financial Reporting, Head Office Reporting as well as some Regulatory Reporting. The Junior Accountant will work closely with the designated reviewer who will review the accuracy and adequacy of the report.

Your Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in month-end / term-end book closing and reporting in an accurate and timely manner.
  2. Prepares accounting adjustments for ATLAS G/L.
  3. Prepares reports to control/monitor ATLAS G/L movement.
  4. Prepare regulatory reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  5. Prepares daily Bond / Nostro reconciliation using ATLAS download and external information.
  6. Prepares monthly management information on Reconciliation.
  7. Collects and files Bank’s Financial / Regulatory / Tax Record in an orderly manner.
  8. Prepares financial & non-financial information to be used by Tax Return preparer.
  9. Collects and files the Bank’s tax record in orderly manner.
  10. Documents report preparation procedure.
  11. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management.

Your Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting or a related field.
  2. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  4. Excellent mathematical skills.
  5. Detail orientated with the willingness to acquire working knowledge in quality control and volume processing to deliver sound financial statements.

The anticipated salary range for this role is listed above. The specific salary offered to an employment applicant is based on the individual’s qualifications, experiences, the job responsibilities, an analysis of the current compensation paid for similar roles in the local geographic area, and key distinctions of the job as compared to current jobs in the Branch. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
