Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$123,750 – $181,500

Product Engineering is responsible for the global product design, specifications, materials, and technical agendas for Lilly devices and for providing technical support to global device manufacturing operations with interface to functional groups inside and outside IDM.
Key Objectives:
- Act as subject matter expert for resins, adhesives, damping compounds, polymers and key materials used in the manufacture of pre-filled and re-usable pharmaceutical devices
- Contribute materials engineering expertise to Manufacturing post-launch projects to ensure safe and reliable device performance and supply. Specific topics include: biocompatibility, materials selection, troubleshooting material failures, polymer durability, damping compounds and lubricants performance.
- Effectively coordinate engineering recommendations with cross-functional teammates
- Monitor and manage materials related Force Majeure that may impact device supply
- Work closely with Development (DDCS) Materials Team to stay aligned on materials decisions and materials standards compliance (ISO 10993)
- Independently manage and prioritize work between multiple device platforms and products
- Act as Lilly sponsor for network partners that provide materials science deliverables including prioritization of activities and setting direction for issue resolution
- Co-facilitate Materials Steering Team Forum in partnership with development
- Develop and/or execute a wide variety of experimental plans with internal and external resources
- Document results and conclusions; Good oral and written communication skills and experience
- Maintain network of key resin and material testing external suppliers including following Lilly Confidentiality guidelines
- Demonstrated scientific, engineering, and applied cGMP skills.
- Knowledge of relevant material characteristics and their implications to applications
- When relevant, presents technical information on projects, e.g. internal seminars or meetings
- May represent department or company in interactions with internal and external committees or regulators, presentations, publications, or other professional activities
- Problem solving and decision-making skills
- Experience with technology transfer and due diligence inquiry
- Fundamental knowledge and of risk analysis and risk analysis tools
- Maintain expertise through continuous learning of new materials and new technologies.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelors degree required. Degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering preferred or equivalent degree.
- 5+ years of experience with materials engineering in highly regulated industry (medical device engineering preferred)
- Knowledge of polymer materials chemistry, polymer processing (injection molding, extrusion), and polymer analysis (thermal methods, chemical methods, mechanical methods, rheological methods, surface analysis)
Additional Preferences:
- Knowledge of lubricants and damping compounds
- Experience in injection molded plastics
- Knowledge in ISO10993 – Biological Evaluation of medical devices
