ROHM Semiconductor USA, LLC is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of “Senior Technical Product Marketing Engineer” at its Santa Clara, California location.

The Senior Technical Product Marketing Engineer position is responsible for coordinating the Si, SiC and GaN power semiconductors in engineering and business activities related to automotive and industrial markets from the planning and execution through the product lifecycle, which includes: gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with ROHM Japan’s engineering teams and other ROHM departments (i.e., Sales, Business Development, Marketing, etc.) to ensure revenue growth and product goals are met. This position also: builds and maintains sales support with customers regarding technical issues, documentation, and design-in of products; assists with duties intended to increase sales and maintain profits; interfaces with customers to negotiate contracts, sell products and serve as a first-line source of technical information regarding assigned Company products.

Specifically, the Senior Technical Product Marketing Engineer is responsible for: (1) serving as a technical leader for product definitions, business development, customer ecosystem engagement and product launches; (2) defining product strategy by creating and implementing technology roadmaps (which includes guiding design teams, R&D teams, manufacturing and test organizations) towards future needs for business growth; (3) defining products based on lead customers and market trends involving SiC, GaN wide-bandgap power semiconductor technologies and analog circuit components for operation, protection and monitoring; (4) engaging with automotive and industrial customers on SiC, GaN applications and support design-in through engineering activities (including device engineering, package engineering, application test engineering, etc.); (5) creating unique intellectual property (IP) blocks that provide unique value propositions; (6) delivering Market Requirements Documents (MRDs) and Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) with prioritized features and corresponding justification; (7) developing core positioning and messaging for Company products; (8) creating and implementing go-to market plans with external 3rd parties on joint promotions, customer projects, and system-based reference designs; (9) generating sales collateral and training sales and field applications engineers; (10) identifying and educating internal Company stakeholders and external customers with technical collateral for current and future Company programs; (11) coordinating business and technical product activities for the Company focused on new emerging business; (12) analyzing and exploring potential markets and applications, identifying where the Company has potential growth, business gaps, and where future technologies/products would be required for a sustainable business; (13) generating high level business plans and promoting internally to the various groups to gain support, resources, and funding; (14) promoting ROHM portfolio, roadmaps, and competencies to potential customers; (15) collaborating with the Company’s Marketing, Design Center, Sales and other internal technical teams to create technical marketing presentations, publications on product literature and marketing communications, new product launches and introductions, advertisement creation, placement, to conduct or give technical marketing presentations (when needed) and to provide technical support (where needed); (16) creating new product introductions and providing guidance to product marketing managers and distribution sales team on new product introductions; (17) analyzing competitive market trends; and (18) offering alternate product solutions to benefit the Company and increase internal profit margins.


Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics or related field of study. In addition, qualified candidates must possess 120 months of experience as a Sales or Marketing Engineer, Design Engineer, Field Applications Engineer, Systems Engineer or related technical position.

Qualified candidates must possess at least 120 months of experience. This experience must include:

  • 10 years of experience performing core engineering work within the semiconductor, automotive and/or electronics industries that includes: power device product design, device engineering, customer design-in, and wide bandgap power electronics;
  • 5 years of experience with product marketing and technical support activities; and
  • 3 years of GaN product design experience.

Qualified candidates must also possess: a demonstrated understanding of automotive and modular power supply technologies; knowledge of package and module technology related to GaN power technology; a demonstrated understanding of how to create a datasheet for power device products; the ability to understand and market technical products; the ability to use databases (e.g., opportunity management system); and the ability to conduct statistical analysis (e.g., Weibull distribution analysis). Finally, qualified candidates must have the ability to speak, read and write fluently in both English and Japanese to provide technical meeting interpretations and to read and interpret technical documents.
