Job Description
The Director of Engineering Operations supports the Digital Engineering organization by increasing its efficiency and communication, enabling the team to ultimately develop and deliver better products for users. This role reports directly to the Head of Digital Engineering.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented operations-focused problem solver obsessed with building and improving the machine that builds the machines to deliver on Olympus’ mission of making people’s lives healthier, safer, and more fulfilling. You are an experienced product manager and/or Director of engineering management and know what it takes to continuously solve problems for users while meeting the needs of the business. You believe processes are products.
As the Director of Engineering Operations you will work on identifying, designing, implementing, and managing operational improvements within the Digital Engineering organization and between it and other functions of Olympus. Your work will increase alignment and connection, free up time for all members of the Engineering team to focus more of their time on core activities and make them faster and more productive. This role is a highly cross-functional player/coach which will shape the future Engineering Operations department.
Job Duties
- Drive the design, implementation, and management of operational efficiency and documentation within the Engineering organization and between other functions of Olympus.
- Own and optimize our way of working cadence, including sprint rhythms, monthly demos, quarterly updates, and annual planning.
- Reduce the time spent on routine tasks by examining repeating processes and identifying opportunities, including the development of new processes & tools, to streamline them.
- Own the tracking, change management and communication of Engineering organization OKRs and Way of Working content.
- Own the structure of our documentation (ex. roadmaps, product specifications, etc.) and knowledge systems, ensuring they are up-to-date and improving their usability for the benefit of product organization.
- Support Engineering organizational headcount planning, budgeting, and financial reporting requirements working with Finance and People Operations.
- Increase iteration speed and alignment by standardizing communications within the Engineering organization and between it and the rest of the organization.
- Maintain documentation of the Engineering organization’s tooling to ensuring the latest best practices, processes, and tools are in place and available.
- Increase the speed and effectiveness of onboarding new team members.
- Improve team connection by ensuring opportunities for bonding and team events.
- Own the planning and execution of large-scale quarterly planning events with the engineering organization and outside functions and stakeholders.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, Engineering, related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 14 years of industry experience in product management or similar roles (project management, operations, engineering, account management, etc.).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a director of product management or similar management role (project management, operations, engineering, etc.).
- Other Considerations (travel/hours availability, etc.):
- Travel required (US and International).
- Availability to attend meeting with team members spread out around the globe.
Preferred:
- Experience in product operations, product management, or an operational role that worked. closely with product and engineering teams.
- Experience leading roadmap creation, annual planning, quarterly planning, and other similar activities across product, engineering, and sales/marketing
- Global experience – ability to empathize with different cultures and organizational set-ups.
- Fluency in Japanese, Spanish, or German.
- Experience in a high growth technology company.
- Willingness to learn new technology, tools, etc.
- Computer Science background or affinities.
