ROHM Semiconductor USA, LLC is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of “System Design Architecture Manager” at its Santa Clara, California location.

The System Design Architecture Manager position is responsible for the design and development of high-pin count power management integrated circuits (IC) solutions to complex applications problems and use-cases. This position determines design approaches and parameters that are optimal for customer application and the semiconductor process technology. The System Design Architecture Manager position also works on: business case development, market positions and product definition in conjunction with Tier-1 lead customers for semi-custom power management integrated circuits (PMICs) (OTP variants sold to other customers) and application specific general market products; design methodology and verification methodology alignment with external customers and internal design teams, proto-build design in support for first-silicon power success in customer system environment; and provides support to customers in every build until customer mass production (MP). This position also requires the ability to manage application engineers in the development of test data and engineering collateral, as well as the ability to work with the Sales team and external customers to develop compelling business cases for approval by Senior Management.

The System Design Architecture Manager position also includes the following job duties and functions: (1) will serve as a technical leader with proven product definition experience, business case development, customer ecosystem engagement and product launch with required collateral; (2) will support scaling up of product volumes and business; (3) will guide design team, R&D teams, manufacturing and test organizations towards future needs for business growth; (4) Designing analog subsystems, digital architecture, system analogs and digital interface framework, product definition in close collaboration with ROHM-Japan (parent company) IC design team members; (5) applying knowledge of electrical, package, thermal and reliability considerations in IC design and system design using the IC as well as spoken technical Japanese; (6) handling stringent customer demands and guiding ROHM Japan methodology changes for analog block-level verification, digital design, and mixed-mode verification (including application considerations); (7) understanding of, and applying, submicron power BiCMOS semiconductor process technology, device characteristics, parasitic limitations and area-performance tradeoffs; (8) understanding of, and applying, battery technologies and the ability to implement charging, monitoring and protection circuits that work in conjunction with advanced battery chemistries; (9) defining processes for next generation customer technical platforms, system specs, input/output and working parameters for hardware (HW) and software (SW); (10) conceiving system interfaces and verifying business requirements for application prototypes; (11) identifying, analyzing and resolving system design weaknesses; (12) working on product definition in conjunction with Tier-1 lead customers for semi-custom high-pin count (>100 pints) PMICs and defining an IC architecture for OPT variants sole to other customers; (13) conducting design methodology and verification methodology alignment with external customers and internal design teams, proto-build design in support for first-silicon power success in customer system environment, and providing customer support in every build until customer MP; (14) interfacing with US and Japan IC design teams, Engineers, Marketing, Sales and Senior Management; (15) collecting and exchanging ROHM technology data within the global ROHM organization; (16) performing translation of written technical and business documents in English and Japanese; (17) performing technical presentations to customers and marketing seminars; and managing application engineers and system design architects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or Computer Science.

In addition, qualified candidates must possess 96 months of experience as a Design Engineer, Power Design and Validation Engineer, Design System Architect or related engineering experience in the semiconductor and/or consumer electronic industries.

Qualified candidates must also have:
• working knowledge in system design, integration, test and performance evaluations;
• working knowledge in project management expertise in engineering methodologies, requirements analyses and specification development;
• working knowledge in design approach;
• working knowledge of tools and instrumentation used for design, development and testing functions, including Cadence Schematic design tools (analog and digital), PSPICE, Matlab, CRM/ERP software, Linux workstation design and simulation, oscilloscopes, and PCB design tools;
• working knowledge in concept development and design through production and testing; and
• working knowledge and prior use of project manager tools (ex. JIRA).

Finally, qualified candidates must have the ability to speak, read and write fluently in both English and Japanese.

Domestic and international travel is estimated to be approximately 10%.
