As our VP of Merchandising you will direct and manage the Merchandising function of Oriental Trading Company to achieve OTC financial goals and objectives. You will also ensure that activities within the areas of Merchandising, Product Design and Sourcing are consistent with the strategic direction of the company.

Detailed Description

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Oversees the execution of all merchandising plans of the business to ensure goals are met
  2. Provides direction and directives to Director and Management level staff in the performance of their duties, establishing work priorities, and in achieving company initiatives
  3. Develops short and long term strategies which help grow the current business
  4. Oversees the identification, development, and implementation of new business strategies, initiatives, and product lines
  5. Establishes communication partnerships with other areas of the company
  6. Develops quantitative goals and objectives for business results
  7. Analyzes and evaluates results to align with growth and profitability
  8. Establishes policies, procedures, and objectives for the Merchandising areas to operate effectively and efficiently
  9. Operates within and holds direct reports accountable to a specified budget
  10. Establishes a focus on talent management and develops and maintains an engaged and accountable workforce
  11. Establishes a talent review process and makes the Merchandising department of OTC a great place to have a career
  12. Maintains regular and predictable attendance
  13. Abides by all policies and procedures of Oriental Trading Company
  14. Must be able to attend face to face meetings on short or little advance notice
  15. Work requires in-person collaboration among colleagues and contractors

  • Requires excellent analytical, planning, leadership and presentation skills
  • Requires interaction with all levels of management throughout the company, the ability to prioritize multiple projects and to manage many concurrent projects
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and utilize significant data to make sound business decisions
  • Ability to conceptualize beyond existing barriers, methods, and practices
  • Ability to perform job in a safe manner


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Merchandising, Business, related field or equivalent combination of education and experience


  • Minimum ten years experience in Merchandising and Product Development
  • Minimum of three years in a Sr. Management and/or Executive level role
  • Overseas sourcing experience strongly preferred
