Summary of the Position:

The SSD Store Merchandise Associate (SMA) is a non-exempt position who is considered the expert of our merchandise. This is the key contact person for vendors and our company Merchandise Development Division (MDD). The expectation for this position is to provide excellent customer service by willingness, confidence, commitment, and motivation towards customers, coworkers and supervisors. You will be responsible for supporting store operations by providing merchandise planning, ordering products, supervising merchandise, stocking, greeting and helping customers, and maintaining your department’s productivity.

Job Responsibilities:
• Ensuring the store is neat, clean, and presentable
• Provide proper customer service to company’s expectations
• Properly wear and use company provided Personal Protective Equipment this includes and is not limited to uniform, vest, apron, mask, gloves, hat, hair net, etc.
• Based on the assignment, you may need to handle Deli, Meat, Seafood, Bakery, Sushi, household, beauty and or other merchandise.
• Based on the assignment, you need to handle different tools and equipment such as slicer, scale, saw, knife, wrapper, grinder, and/or other necessary items.
• Support your supervisors (i.e. ADL and DL) by checking inventory levels, and quality control. You will also be in charge of placing orders, returning merchandise and creating product labels.
• Coordinate with warehouse team members about packing and labels.
• Gain sufficient merchandise knowledge regarding materials, instructions, POP, and flyers.
• Provide accurate results in the warehouse system, including reports.
• Responsible for the merchandise reports including shipment tracking, sales performance, product inventory forms, and others.
• Train and develop store team members with knowledge regarding company merchandise.
• Follow supervisors’ instructions and company policy and procedures.
• Participate and contribute to store meetings.
• Other related job tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

Requirements:
• Must be 18 or older to use sharp knives, ladders, scaffolds or their substitutes
• May include operating or assisting in power-driven machinery or equipment.
• Grocery store experience is preferred but not required.
• High energy, enthusiastic, and displays an affinity for our products, core values, and company philosophy.
• Extensive knowledge of specialty products.
• Growth mindset and work towards greater responsibility and ownership.
• Desire to coach and mentor others for growth with the merchandise knowledge.
• Excellent interpersonal, motivational, and customer relationship skills.
• Advanced knowledge of product industry regulations and procedures.
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds without aid.
• Must be punctual and respect work schedule.
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a calm demeanor.
• Preferably has a warm and outgoing personality who is looking to inspire and proud to work for our company
• Follows the employee handbook and company source book.
• Proficient in math required for managing inventory.
• Proficient in email, Microsoft Office, and operation-related applications.

• Work on a flexible schedule which requires weekends
• Possess a valid Food Handler’s certificate or the ability to acquire one (through the company)

Certificates & Licenses:
• Possesses a food handling license
• Possesses a forklift operating license

Language:
• The ability to speak, read and write in English fluently is required
• Japanese or Spanish bilingual skills is preferred

Work Environment:
• Kitchen and store floor (this may contain confined spaces, noises and various temperature levels)
• Indoor (artificial variable lighting; air conditioned; may be crowded)
• Outdoor (store parking area, and/or travel between stores)
• Noise Level (moderate to noisy)
