The University of Hawaii at Manoa, Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, invites applications for an Instructor of Japanese. This is a non-tenure track and annually renewable, dependent on satisfactory performance. Appointment to begin August 1, 2025
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate Japanese language courses at all levels;
- Teach 24-credits per academic year;
- Assist in curriculum development and assessment instruments;
- Participate in the design and development of online courses, as necessary;
- Engage in student recruitment and undergraduate advising;
- Maintain an appropriate program of professional development;
- Participate in departmental committees;
- Engage in departmental, university, and community service;
- Other duties as assigned by the Chair
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.A. in Japanese, foreign language pedagogy, or relevant field from a college or university of recognized standing;
- Teaching experience at the college level;
- High-level of written and spoken proficiency in Japanese and English;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, faculty, staff and administration.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Knowledge of curriculum development;
- Familiarity with on-line courses, ACTFL proficiency standards and pedagogical practices that align with current trends in language teaching.
- Demonstrated ability to support the university’s mission of diversity, equity and inclusion.
