Company: Peabody Essex Museum
The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) recently received a generous and inspiring gift of Japanese cloisonné enamels from the late Fredric T. Schneider, a renowned scholar and collector. The collection, which Schneider began assembling in 1993, features approximately 900 works tracing four centuries of cloisonné enamel production. Works include commissions for the Japanese imperial family, pieces for export – among them masterworks exhibited at many International fairs – as well as a group of important cloisonné enamel pieces by contemporary master practitioners. The Schneider Collection significantly expands PEM’s renowned holdings of Japanese art, and will ultimately make the museum an important center for the appreciation, research, and study of Japanese cloisonné enamels.
This two-year, full-time position for a Collection Documentation and Digitization Specialist will support the Japanese art initiative at PEM and will work closely with PEM staff members in Registration, Curatorial, Collections Management and the Phillips Library to document and catalogue works of Japanese cloisonné books, and related ephemera.
PEM is committed to enhancing diversity in its staff, visitors, exhibitions and programs while promoting an inclusive environment. We seek candidates who can contribute to that goal and encourage you to apply and to identify your strengths in these areas.
