Job Title: Japanese-English interpreter for Japanese Major League player

Job Classification: Full-time, Exempt

Job Description

  • Interpreter for a Japanese professional baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the 2025 season.
  • Official starting date is immediately upon hiring and until October 31, 2025, Will spend the term of employment in the United States.
  • Provide Japanese translation for workouts, games and off-field matters.
  • Assist with interpreting verbal and written information from Baseball Operations staff to Japanese-speaking players.
  • Assist Japanese-speaking players with education and cultural acclimation to life in the United States.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Work experience providing translation services in sports, entertainment, or a related industry is preferred.
  • Bilingual and biliterate in Japanese/English required.
  • Baseball knowledge and understanding of baseball vocabulary in both English and Japanese (ability to understand data/analytical terms, mechanical terms, baseball concepts/terms).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Japanese baseball culture and Japanese culture/etiquette strongly preferred.
  • Ability to face mass media, including live TV broadcasts.
  • Confident in translation abilities and confidence working in a high-profile environment amongst professional players, front office, coaches, media.
  • Position will require traveling with the team and working hours conducive for Player’s professional schedule.

The anticipated salary for this role is $90,000 – $100,000 annually depending on experience.
