Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc. (HPES) provides service and maintenance operations to Particle Therapy systems. Accsys Technologies, a division of HPES designs and manufactures ion RF LINAC systems (radio frequency linear accelerator), which are used in Particle Beam Therapy systems and R&D applications. Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc. is a Hitachi Group Company.

Position Summary

Hitachi Particle Engineering and services, Inc. is looking for an experienced Commissioning Technician to join the Particle Therapy Division on the Proton Beam Therapy System(PBT) equipment commissioning project at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, Madison, WI. The commissioning Technician will be responsible for providing support during the commissioning phase under the direction of the Hitachi commissioning manager and engineers. He/she will be involved in the adjustment, measurement, test and inspection of equipment installed at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics. The Proton Beam Therapy System is recognized worldwide as a state-of-the-art system, composed of a particle accelerator, rotating gantry and its control systems etc. The position requires Electrical/Mechanical knowledge and worksite experience.

The commissioning technician will be engaged in the maintenance service of the PBT system at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics after commissioning.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the quality and process of commissioning activity on the Proton Beam Therapy System, which will include the following responsibilities:
  • in compliance with all regulatory standards including OSHA and Hitachi internal policies and interpretations of
  • above as required.
  • Perform test, inspection, adjustment and commissioning of equipment installed in the newly built Proton Beam
  • Therapy System at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, Madison, WI. Examples of the equipment include
  • accelerator systems, irradiation systems, devices for patient alignment and safety interlock systems.
  • Verify the system integrity from reception through completion of treatment (without patient).
  • Interface with relevant groups of site organization and customer, and assist with commissioning, coordination and performance verification of equipment of the Proton Beam Therapy System in accordance with the test specifications, commissioning procedures which are issued by Hitachi High-Tech, Co.
  • Verify control of the whole system after the test, inspection and adjustment of equipment is complete.
  • Adjust the parameters of equipment installed in the accelerator system based on information acquired from
  • the monitor of accelerator system on the console.
  • Measure and evaluate the irradiation system integrity, distribution, and positioning accuracy of a volume of
  • proton beam for patient treatment with special measuring equipment, after the transportation adjustment for
  • proton beam is complete.
  • Prepare records as directed in the drawings or commissioning procedures for commissioning activities under the guidance of the Commissioning Engineer.
  • Revise the testing and inspection procedures as directed. Prepare drafts of the nonconformance report, submit the nonconformance report to the Supervisor of commissioning when the nonconformance is found during commissioning. Submit the nonconformance report to the Site Manager after obtaining review from the Supervisor and approval from the Site QA. Issue the inspection report (or nonconformance report) to obtain view or instruction from the responsible departments of Hitachi High-Tech, Co. where applicable, confirm the instruction for corrective action by the responsible departments of Hitachi, and restart commissioning.
  • Submit the inspection report or nonconformance report, including the corrective action taken, to Supervisor
  • of commissioning.
  • Correctly receive and manage parts and measuring instruments.
  • and submit work orders in a timely fashion and includes all relevant details

Qualifications:

  • A qualification as an electrician is preferred.
  • degree in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or a related field is required
  • years of experience working as a Service Engineer are a plus
  • skilled with proven ability to troubleshoot problems, solve abstract issues, and interpret policies and procedures
  • Ability to:
    • read and correctly interpret various engineering documents (schematics, wiring diagrams, piping diagrams, etc.)
    • use standard electronic test and measurement instruments (DVM, oscilloscope, micrometers, etc.)
    • safely work in regions of high voltage and radiation
    • safely lift to 50 pounds repeatedly
    • Must be able to work at elevated heights of at least 35 feet.
    • work independently or as part of a cross-functional team
  • Flexibility to work shift work and modified hours. There are Night shift work, weekend work and holiday work.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work well with various personnel demonstrating a good attitude and ability to work successfully as a member of the team.
