Under the general supervision of the Chief of the Chinese and Japanese Section in Language Services of the Corporate Services and Facilities (CSF) Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the candidate will provide accurate, timely and stylistically appropriate translations from English into Chinese and from Chinese into English, using word processing, spreadsheet, and other relevant software, including CAT tools. Specifically, the selected candidate will:
Translate, mostly without revision, texts covering the full range of Fund/PBOC documents and publications. Revise and/or review translations prepared by freelancers. Post-edit machine-generated translations to ensure they are accurate, fluent, and contextually appropriate. Identify and research points of terminology, language, and subject matter during assignments consulting with authors and other experts to clarify ambiguities. Contribute to updating and maintaining the terminology database and related reference material. Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications and Experiences
In addition to the qualifications set forth in the job standards, the ideal candidate will possess the following:
A. Academic qualifications
Educational development, typically acquired by the completion of an advanced university degree, or equivalent, in translation, linguistics, economics, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of four years of relevant work experience, is required.
B. Language skills and related knowledge background
The candidate must possess excellent translation skills in both English to Chinese and Chinese to English, with an excellent command of financial and economic concepts and terminology. The candidate should have the ability to accurately translate IMF/PBOC materials.
Reasonable experience in revising the work of other translators is preferred.
While not mandatory, candidates with interpretation experience will be highly regarded.
A strong understanding of the mandates and businesses of the Fund, as well as economic and financial concepts is essential. This includes, but is not limited to, macro-economic policies, central banking, fiscal policy, and regulations/supervisions.

Proven ability to produce, within the established deadlines, translations and revisions that meet high standards of accuracy and consistency and retain the sense, style and register of the original text. Ability to deliver within the assigned deadline, while complying with quality standards.
Technology: Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and other relevant software, including computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools.
Continuous learning: Keep abreast of new developments in the translation field, e.g., CAT tools, translation memories, machine translation and related innovations.
Planning and organizing: Ability to work efficiently under pressure. Ability to identify and reshuffle priorities and plan for timely delivery.
Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team. Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships in a multinational environment.
