    Job Summary

    INFORMATION ANALYST

    DESCRIPTION

    Under the direction of the Director, Educational Technology and Information Services; the Information Analyst performs a variety of tasks related to the management of school enrollment, testing and data management; sets up, maintains and runs reports on the district’s computerized student information system and all related software/databases; analyzes data for state reporting; imports and/or converts data into other programs and databases; provides support for student testing data.

    DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN CLASSES

    An Information Analyst is responsible for creating custom reports to deliver requested information from the student information system to various departments. They are also responsible for the database’s integrity; creating and maintaining database user accounts; submitting required reports to the state; and supporting users with questions regarding the student information system.

    A Customer Support Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of computer hardware, software and for both Intel-based and Macintosh-based installed technology. This includes knowledge of operating tools and advanced electronic hardware and software analysis equipment for diagnosing, repairing and resolving hardware and software problems on individual workstations and peripheral equipment.

    A Network Technician participates in the planning and installation and ongoing maintenance of the District’s wide area network and local area networks. This includes providing technical support for software and hardware associated with the networks, ensuring the reliable interface among the District’s local area networks, access to mainframe systems and the worldwide web/internet; and participating in the planning, implementation and maintenance of network security.

    A Supervisor, Educational Technology and Information Services supervises an information systems unit and participates in the work of the unit.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

    Set up, maintain and run reports on the district’s Microsoft SQL-based student information system and all related software/databases.

    Maintain the district’s student information system for the purpose of ensuring its availability and reliable operation.

    Analyze data for State Report submission – CBEDS, CALPADS, Annual Maintenance, Anomalies, State Identifiers, etc.

    Customer support; hardware and software troubleshooting.

    Train staff on student information systems and new procedures.

    Maintain computer operator security.

    Import and convert data into other programs and databases.

    Provide support for student testing data.

    Compose technical and non-technical materials (e.g., reports, memos, procedures, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.

    Perform related duties as assigned.

    CLASS QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of:

    Student information systems.

    Structured Query Language (SQL), usage and maintenance of relational databases.

    Basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios.

    Ability to:

    Schedule activities and/or meetings.

    Routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data.

    Be flexible to work independently or with others in a wide variety of circumstances.

    Work with data utilizing specific, defined processes.

    Work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups.

    Independently solve problems, while working with others, to analyze issues and create action plans.

    One year of recent experience in the usage of various databases, including Structured Query Language (SQL), and creation of custom reports.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    A bachelor’s degree and experience with Q/Zangle Student Information System are highly desirable.

    Certificates and/or completed courses in job-related field are desirable.

    Written and oral proficiency in a second language.

    CURRENT VACANCY: One full-time position (8 hrs./day, 12 mos./yr.) with the Educational Technology and Information Services, at the Administration Center. The position includes full district-paid benefits. Health and welfare district contribution is $39,790 annually.
