Who we are:

Established in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. was originally a small co-op organization for centralized purchasing of basic import foods to service the needs of the early Japanese immigrant society in Southern California. We’ve grown nearly 100 years old now, and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as “Culinary Ambassador” promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Currently, we import, manufacture, and distribute over 8,000 Japanese foods, beverages, restaurant equipment and supplies.

Essential Job Functions

Inside Sales Duty (60%)
• Inputs, updates, and maintains sales orders, invoices, and bill-back data within the database.
• Monitors inventory and ensures the ordered items are in stock.
• Updates and maintains customer records in the Company database.
• Updates and maintains customer ABC license records at every order input.
• Collects payment by cash, check, or credit card and generate receipts for will call customers, and deposits to the Company’s bank account in a timely manner.
• Enters credit card and ACH transaction information in the portal site in a timely manner to ensure payment collection.
• Maintains high levels of customer satisfaction by providing excellent service and building rapport.
• Answers customer questions about products, procedures, and payments.
• Troubleshoots delivery problems.
• Updates and prepares all sales and marketing materials.
• Reports any inventory or service issues to appropriate account manager immediately.
• Collaborates with the sales staff to monitor active purchase orders and ensure that orders are completed on time.
• Scribes meetings and distributes meeting minutes to the team.
• Attends Company events and functions outside of normal working hours.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Obligation to answer to all management as requested

PPM Duty (25%)
• Communicates with the customers and issue PO based on the customer’s need.
• Communicates with the makers and the venders to coordinate product shipment.
• Prepares and maintain shipping documents related to exports, including tracking shipments, and inventory management.
• Communicates with customers and freight forwarders to resolve any issues and ensure timely delivery of products
• Collects payment from the customers
• Maintains high levels of customer satisfaction by providing excellent service and building rapport.

Sushi School Duty (15%)
• Drives company vehicle to the local market to purchase food materials on daily basis.
• Rides students to the local fish markets or other places as needed
• Receiving delivery of food materials.

Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit in an office for a majority of the day
• Ability to type for extended periods throughout the day
• Ability to reach, bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
• Working Conditions

o Noise Level: Normal to loud

o Indoors

Other Requirements
• Business level English – Read/write/speak/listen
• Business level Japanese; Native level Japanese preferred – Read/write/speak/listen
• Maintains a positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Ability to work independently and as a team
• Ability to adapt to frequent changes in assignments and workload
• High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree and above preferred
• 2+ years of relevant experience preferred

Knowledge and Skills
• Clerical/Administrative Support
• Basic mathematical knowledge – markups, discounts, combining/converting measurements, counting inventory, etc.
• Problem-solving skills
• Basic Microsoft Office proficiency
• Communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of Japanese foods and alcohol strongly preferred
