    Today, We Are Looking For

    The Sr. Director Asia, Australia, Oceania is responsible for implementing activities and programs that support accomplishing the goals of the strategic plan, specifically, the goals and actions which match Vision 2 of the Strategic Plan: “The Greater Houston Partnership will lead and facilitate initiatives that establish the Houston region as the leading gateway to global markets.”

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    The following responsibilities are essential to job performance:

    • Develop strategic programs, events, and activities for member companies involved in Houston’s international business, trade development, and related services.
    • Establishes and maintains strategic external relationships with high-level international government and business development allies.
    • Coordinate and facilitate all Partnership inbound and out-bound international missions to Asia, Australia, and Oceania.
    • Represent the international trade division and the Greater Houston Partnership at assigned special functions, seminars, trade shows/exhibitions, etc.
    • Assist in the development of policy positions that will enhance the infrastructure of the international business community in the Houston region.
    • Assist with department budgets, annual work programs, project tracking, and formulation of strategies for new trade development issues.
    • Manage, plan, and direct trade development activities and special projects focused on international aviation as well as regional initiatives in Asia, Australia, and Oceania.
    • Market department’s programs and services to allies and prospective members.
    • Provide international business assistance to members and prospective members involved in international trade.
    • Assist international buyers in identifying sources of Houston products.
    • Coordinate committee activities for the International Aviation sub-committee and Asia, Australia, and Oceania Regional Business Forum.
    • Coordinate and disseminate local and foreign investment leads.
    • Maintain contacts with elected and appointed officials in the City, County, and State, World Trade Center Association, Consulates, Trade Offices, Bilateral Chambers, Foreign Banks, International Government Officials, and international companies here in Houston.
    • Assist the senior vice president in the development of public policy initiatives including identifying issues, developing positions, and designing and executing an advocacy plan.
    • Coordinate routine activities with other departments and divisions of the Partnership as applicable.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are desirable for job success:

    • Excellent writing, grammar, and public speaking skills required.
    • Intermediate level proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Experience in maintaining good public relations with international organizations.
    • Experience working with all professional levels of internal and external contacts.
    • Experience in a fast-paced work environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and deadlines, with minimal supervision.
    • Ability and flexibility to prioritize assignments and work on multiple assignments simultaneously.
    • Ability to work in a team environment and share tasks.
    • Bilingual or Multilingual skills preferred in languages pertinent to the region (Mandarin, Japanese).
    • International travel experience preferred. Regional cultural awareness is considered a plus. 20-25% of travel included.
    • Flexibility to work occasional overtime, as necessary.

    Education Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economic Development, or Real Estate studies preferred.

    Required Experience

    Five (5) years of direct private sector experience in sales or international business development is required.

    Physical Requirements

    • Good vision and hearing acuity (with adaptive aids if necessary).
    • Manual dexterity and skillful use of computer keyboard.
    • Physical exertion includes bending, pushing, standing, and walking. Must be able to move or lift approximately 25 pounds on occasion.

    Mental and Aptitude Requirements

    • Job requires the ability to hear, see, and talk; analytical, conceptual, problem-solving, planning and decision-making skills.

    Safety Requirements

    Adhere to office safety policies.
