Job Description
- Assisting patrons at the circulation desk; 30%
- Checking out and returning books; 30%
- Helping to keep the book stacks in order & shelving books; 20%
- Assisting with course reserves; 5%
- Providing reference assistance with the online catalog, electronic resources, and reference books; 5%
- Maintaining library copiers and printers; 5%

Work Schedule
10-20 hours per week. Work schedules will vary, according to the work hours available, your class schedule, and the Library’s weekend or evening hours. Working some night or weekend hours will be required
Required Qualifications
- Effective interpersonal communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.
- Basic computer skills, as evidenced by application materials.
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Preferred Qualifications
- Qualified for Work Study.
- Past work experience demonstrating the ability to maintain an assigned schedule.
- Past work experience demonstrating the ability to listen to instructions, learn quickly, practice good judgment and a willingness to work independently.
- Working experience in a library.
- Basic knowledge of art, architecture, and/or design.
- Reading knowledge in one of the following languages: German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, or Chinese.
Position Overview
Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).
