Cleared Japanese Interpreters and Translators

JTG is currently seeking Secret-cleared (or higher) Japanese Interpreters and Translators.

Location: Point Mugu, CA (Ventura County)

Status: Full-Time or Part-Time

Responsibilities:

• Interpret and translate from English to Japanese and from Japanese to English between U.S. Government, Japanese Defense Forces (JDF), and/or Japanese Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers.
• Properly convey the substance of the words and information to be translated, conducting requisite research and with attention to detail and nuances.
• Bridge terminology gaps, different measurement systems, and similar disparities.
• Provide consultation to the Government regarding Japanese culture
• Resolve linguistic problems as they arise and coordinate the work with others.
• Adjust to the demands of diplomatic protocol, protective security requirements, and similar considerations.
• May be required to take on a public relations or mediating role as part of the interpreting, so as not to jeopardize policies and program objectives and in order to obtain the desired results
• Perform work in Point Mugu Range Safety hazard pattern areas, as needed.
• Perform work in the vicinity of live ordnance, including warheads, as needed.
• Escort foreign military personnel and act as an Area Representative, as needed.
• Travel may be required

Basic Qualifications:

• Current Secret clearance (or higher).
• Three (3) or more years of experience.
• Possess foreign language capability at ILR 3 (either via recent test scores within 1 year, or able to take a test)
• Fluent in a wide range of Japanese and English terminology and specialized vocabulary (military, weapons, diplomatic, government).
• Deep understanding of the cultural differences between the languages.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree minimum (degree in a related field preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree may be substituted with Associate’s degree AND three (3) additional years of experience of language service experience.

This position reports to the Program Manager.
