    Job Summary:

    • The Consumer Products translator will be responsible for managing the translation needs for the licensing team from English to Japanese and Japanese back to English, gathering input and approvals from necessary parties in the US, Europe and Japan.
    • Sega of America is seeking a Licensing Translator – ATLUS who is enthusiastic about the consumer products business and video games. This position will be part of the ATLUS Transmedia pillar, focused on expanding many of ATLUS’ award-winning franchises, such as Persona 5 Royal, Shin Megami Tensei V, Metaphor, and many more.

    Your primary duty is to support the communication for the licensing team in all aspects of the business and providing accurate translation for a variety of materials including presentations, design submissions, and daily communications. Interpretation work for virtual and in-person business meetings will also be required. The idea candidate for this position must have fluency in Japanese and English, exceptional communication skills, and some light knowledge of the consumer products business or gaming industry is a plus.
    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide Japanese to English bilingual translations and interpretation and vice versa for the licensing team, as well as internal cross-functional teams as needed (brand marketing, comms, community, creative services, and product marketing) to ensure projects progress according to status, schedules, and deliverables.
    • Translate a variety of project materials including but not limited to presentations, pitch decks, design submissions, licensing reports, and emails.
    • Attend and interpret during video conference meetings with Japan office ensuring all communicated points are clearly translated and delivered to both Japanese and English-speaking attendees.
    • Provide recap reports on key activities related to each project from video conference meetings.
    • Provide guidance to internal teams based on unique understanding of the temperament and needs of the various stakeholders from Japan.
    • Sit-in on conference calls with licensees and approvers, facilitating communication between multiple parties by translating in real-time.
    • Translate all licensing product submission communications, documents and comments from Japanese to English and vice versa within given schedule in licensing software.
    • Support weekly calls that occur on Japan standard time
    • Stay on top of news and announcements relating to our brands and intellectual properties.
    • Support Licensing team with other duties as assigned.
    • Working in-office is an essential function of this position. This requirement of face-to-face interaction is in place to ensure effective supervision, collaboration, and teamwork. In-office attendance is required for the following reasons:
      • For effective supervision of employees and our work product, which includes ensuring all employees have necessary oversight of their work and access to supervisory assistance, which includes meetings to review work product, deadlines, and status.

      • To enhance understanding of our stakeholders’ work and business needs, facilitate a more seamless and organic workflow, and ultimately increase efficiency and successful outcomes.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Fluent in Japanese; able to understand nuanced meanings
    • Exceptional writing and speaking skills in both English and Japanese languages
    • Demonstrated understanding and experience with US and Japanese business culture
    • Must have previously done translation work
    • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to interact effectively in a professional and courteous manner
    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Adept at Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint)
    • Flexible with evening hours to accommodate Japanese business hours (at least once or twice a week)

    Preferred Skills:

    • Native-level fluent speaking in Japanese
    • Familiar with comic books and gaming
    • Familiar with consumer products
    Minimum USD Salary: 52,000
    Maximum USD Salary: 62,000
