Job Description
This is an entry-level position that is part of the team that supports the ISS Mission Operations Planning (Ops Plan) Flight Controller who is responsible for coordinating, generating and up-linking all plans & supporting material for the ISS crew. This position also performs the lead planning integration role among all international and domestic planners. In addition, the Ops Plan team monitors real-time execution of the timeline, making recommendations and balancing priorities as real-time issues and anomalies arise. The Ops Plan provides support to the International Space Station (ISS) Mission Operations Planning Group in the NASA JSC Flight Operations Directorate (FOD). Members of the Mission Operations Planning Group work closely with other FOD organizations, Flight Directors, International Partners, and other NASA organizations and centers to plan ISS operations. The position will involve training to achieve certifications up through the Ops Plan position. Upon achieving certification, the employee will support ISS real-time operations as an ISS Flight Controller in the Mission Control Center (MCC) at the Johnson Space Center. Duties include, but are not limited to developing mission timelines pre-flight and in real-time that are used in directing the ISS crew and flight controllers in operating the ISS; coordinating the development, testing, and deployment of planning software tools used aboard the ISS and in the control centers; and developing planning products and planning processes used in plan development and training.

Requirements

Required skills and experience
Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. Citizens are eligible for consideration for this position. Candidate must possess excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, leadership and team working skills. Knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to apply them to real-time operations is essential. Candidate must show ability to respond under pressure as a Flight Controller for positions in the Multi-Purpose Support Room. Candidate must pass an Air Force Class III physical for Flight Controller certification. Shift work (nights, weekends, and holidays), strong Microsoft Office skills and some travel are required.

Desired skills and experience
Russian, Japanese, or European language skills, scripting, or web development working knowledge, or project management experience are all a plus.

Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering (ABET), Mathematics, Physics, or in a similar field of study
