    Other Conditions:
    The University of Hawaii at Manoa, Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, invites applications for an Instructor of Japanese. This is a non-tenure track and annually renewable, dependent on satisfactory performance. Appointment to begin August 1, 2025

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Teach undergraduate Japanese language courses at all levels;
    • Teach 24-credits per academic year;
    • Assist in curriculum development and assessment instruments;
    • Participate in the design and development of online courses, as necessary;
    • Engage in student recruitment and undergraduate advising;
    • Maintain an appropriate program of professional development;
    • Participate in departmental committees;
    • Engage in departmental, university, and community service;
    • Other duties as assigned by the Chair

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. M.A. in Japanese, foreign language pedagogy, or relevant field from a college or university of recognized standing;
    2. Teaching experience at the college level;
    3. High-level of written and spoken proficiency in Japanese and English;
    4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, faculty, staff and administration.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    1. Knowledge of curriculum development;
    2. Familiarity with on-line courses, ACTFL proficiency standards and pedagogical practices that align with current trends in language teaching.
    3. Demonstrated ability to support the university’s mission of diversity, equity and inclusion.
