JOB SUMMARY:

Coordinates and provides technical leadership for autonomous and vehicle motion control and drive-by-wire development teams. Coordinates the day-to-day tasks required to develop and implement state of the art development tasks assigned to the unit. Ensures engineers work toward common goals and remain productive. Grows and mentors a talented team from different backgrounds, providing technical and career growth direction. Leads technical collaboration with Isuzu technology partners. Communicates and reports with management as necessary. This is a bilingual position, must be fluent with Japanese and English both verbal and written.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

30%

1. Defines team’s vision and leads technology roadmap. Organizes and plans relevant projects to meet all related project quality gate requirements and dates. Works cross-functionally to coordinate efforts of autonomous and motion control drive by wire, product planning, and partner groups both within and external to Isuzu to plan and track the project goals.

2. Guides all technical aspects of development for autonomous driving, AI and MBD. Provides technical expertise toward modeling capabilities, methodologies, processes, and tools. Supports growth of staff’s technical skills and abilities. Reviews, corrects, and advises on technical outputs related to autonomous driving and AI projects.

3. Creates and implements autonomous driving development plans for the team under supervision. Explains plans to staff, providing leadership and technical expertise. Provides technical suggestions and proposals to engineers to overcome obstacles.

4. Organizes Autonomous Driving, AI and MBD team suited for each project and coordinates workflow and schedules of the teams. Grows and mentors a talented team from different backgrounds, providing technical and career growth direction.

5. Communicates with related groups efficiently, including other Isuzu divisions and departments and Isuzu Japan. Leads technical collaboration with Isuzu technology partners.

6. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to: Director AE Vehicle

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

  • Master’s degree in engineering
  • Advanced coursework/certificate in software architecture, autonomous driving or robotics
  • 6+ years of experience in developing advanced technology by programming language
  • 6+ years of experience managing software development teams
  • 6+ years of leading development of capabilities for advanced automation, and robot operating systems

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Advanced knowledge of programming, software architecture, software development
  • Advanced knowledge of robotics and robot operating systems
  • Technical management knowledge
  • Experience leading team with Agile software development methodology

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent Programming Skills in Python, C++, MATLAB
  • Advanced skills in Robotics
  • Excellent Skills in Software Architecture
  • Experience working with a diverse team and leading them to solve difficult and complex software, simulation, and mathematical problems
  • Advanced report writing and analytical skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Must be fluent in Japanese and English, both written and verbal

PHYSICAL STANDARDS:

Employee must be able to perform occasional light lifting (5 – 25 lbs.) and rare heavy lifting (60 lbs.). Must be able on rare occasions to bend, crawl, climb, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level in the performance of job duties. Must be able to work in hot, cold, and high-altitude extremes.

Position requires 10 – 15% travel, including overnight and weekend stays.
