1 REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Plant Manager.
2 PURPOSE
2.1 Function
2.1.1 To direct the New Launch engineering of their applicable facility.
2.1.2 To coordinate the engineering efforts for new product lines using FJP technology wherever possible;
2.1.3 To quote new projects and make strategic plans;
2.1.4 Lead Maintenance systems;
2.1.5 Lead Tooling systems;
2.1.6 To support customer documentation requirements for tooling reimbursement
2.1.7 To utilize lessons learned to prevent reoccurring defects in new launch products
2.1.8 To plan and guide new launch cross functional teams activity
2.1.9 To follow FJP gate system and insure on time deliverables
2.1.10 To recommend product modifications and make capital and
tooling acquisition decisions within approved budgets.
2.2 Authority
2.2.1 To make engineering decisions and assign engineering projects as necessary.
2.2.2 Point person for Maintenance, Tooling, and Manufacturing Engineering functions within the organization.
2.2.3 Develop launch engineering policies and procedures.
2.2.4 To hire, replace and recommend merit reviews for subordinates.
3 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1 Direct the efforts of manufacturing engineers in the function of preparing for new launch;
3.2 Develop detailed plans for all aspects of launch relating to Engineering and coordinate planning activity for other departments planning;
3.3 Coordinate tooling and capital acquisition and installation for new programs and engineering changes;
3.4 Assist in resolving ongoing quality and manufacturing issues requiring new technology;
3.5 Plan and coordinate changes to plant layout and building modifications/expansions;
3.6 Train and develop a staff skilled in launch engineering activities;
3.7 Train, guide and develop staff in other departments relating to new launch activity;
3.8 Develop and manage tooling, capital and engineering budgets;
3.9 Support customer requirements for documentation for tooling cost recovery;
3.10 Implement effective lessons learned for all new launch based on JTEKT and FJP global group data;
3.11 Engineer the processes to meet quality and production standards;
3.12 Maintain machines through good PM/TPM programs;
3.13 Direct the APQP activities for new programs.
3.14 Prioritize the maintenance and repairs of company equipment and parts;
3.15 Assist Quality department in gauge/check fixture development;
3.16 Coordinate activities between Fuji Kiko and their respective facility relating to new launch;
3.17 To assure company keeps up with latest technology;
3.18 Other duties as assigned.

4.1 Successful start-up of new programs meeting cost, timing, and quality goals.
4.2 Satisfactory performance in QS audits.
4.3 Operating within prescribed budget.
4.4 Effective training of subordinates.

5 SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY
5.5 Direct Relationships
5.5.1 Manages all members of the Manufacturing Engineering Department, Tooling Department, and Maintenance Department.
5.6 Indirect Relationships
5.6.1 Will interface with customers, Production, Sales, Purchasing, Finance, Quality, Human Resources, industrial relations, local community officials, and technical and trade organizations.
Requirements
6 WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional environment, as well as a manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. This role also is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
7 QUALIFICATIONS
7.1 Bachelor’s Degree in either Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing. Prefer a Master’s degree.
7.2 Minimum of ten years’ experience in metal removal, stamping, welding,
injection molding, and assembly in the automotive industry.
7.3 Knowledge of work cells, single piece flow and J.I.T.
7.4 Ability to direct project from design through tooling. Direct all tasks such as ordering of tooling and equipment. Machine installation, prototype handling, container planning, quantity and placement of WIP, operator training, process control plans, budgeting, etc.
7.5 Experience in Advanced Quality Product Planning.
7.6 ISO and TS engineering management knowledge.
7.7 Understand Japanese manufacturing practices.
7.8 Ten years of increasing supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
8 PHYSICAL DEMANDS
8.5 Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
8.6 Must be able to lift 32 pounds at times.
8.3 Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
9 POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position may require extended hours and possible weekend work.
10 TRAVEL
Travel to vendor and customer worksites may be required.
