Tokyo Central is excited to announce that we are going to be opening a new store in the Torrance location. We are looking for team members who have a positive attitude and can follow company philosophy, “The Customer Matters Most.”. Team Members who has passion about food and life, thrive in a fast-paced environment and can still maintain a calm demeanor, and who has strong sense of time and accuracy. We look for team members who can connect with people and can work as one team for the success.

We are very excited in interviewing these leaders and request that you bring the following to the table:
– Love food and can present the food nice and neat in the Deli area. Food can be sushi, bread, bento, and freshly cooked dishes from kitchen.
– To always have a positive attitude and to work well in a team environment. We want our associates can be the strong foundation of the department, make the tasks done, and ensure customers have excellent shopping experience with your friendly attitude and nicely displayed food.

– Have experience with preparing food in retail setting. We encourage our team members do not only know HOW but also know WHY it’s so important to help our customers have good meal choices and ensure our product quality.
– To approach every situation with a YES attitude. Have or be willing to learn how to have the necessary confidence, commitment, and work together with team.
– The Key personality and characteristics that we require our store associates to have in order for them to accomplish their goals are the following: Punctuality, Attentiveness, Humbleness, Supportive, Great Sense of Humor, Good Listening Skills, Consistent, Progressive, and Proactive.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned):
• Processing, cutting, and wrapping Delica items
• Maintains a well-organized back stock/cooler area
• Packaging our food products
• Cook hot meals (Deli, and Japanese food)
• Food Preparation
• Follow recipes and must accurately measure ingredients
• Maintains good communication with store management, associates and suppliers/vendors
• Fosters and encourages a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale.
• Assure proper displaying and selling of all Delica products to customers and advise customers on healthy food and answering customer questions.
• Responsible for cleanliness and sanitation of the Delica back room and front displays.
• Follow the employee handbook at all times, especially on service standards and appearance.
• At all times, meet and/or exceed the Tokyo Central store standards in service, quality, and cleanliness.

Customer Service:
• Providing premier customer service, including greeting them and responding to questions
• Engaging in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
• Meets or exceeds Department’s sales goals assigned through the efficient execution of Company policies and procedures
• Maintains cleanliness of work area, storage area, and selling floor
• Ensures a safe and clean work environment
• Cross Training:
• Store Support Associates exemplify teamwork and are open to and willing to be trained and step in when needed in all departments and similar skilled areas for filling and development opportunities.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Must be 18 or older to use sharp knives, use ladders, scaffolds or their substitutes, substitutes above 6 feet in height, and to operate or assist in operating power-driven machinery or equipment.
  • Must be able to use job related equipment such as slicer, scale, saw, knife and wrapper
  • No experience required, but a minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in a similar work environment is preferred
  • Previous experience as a Line Cook, Prep Cook, or Deli Clerk experience is preferred
  • Possess a CA Food Handling license or the ability to acquire one
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without aid
  • Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to equipment and work aides necessary to perform job duties. Hands are in frequent contact with water, vegetables, deli, and sushi meat while performing job duties.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Comfortable with working in a kitchen environment
  • Must be able to follow recipes and accurately measure ingredients
  • Must be able to operate related equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks
    Able to deliver friendly, courteous, prompt customer service
  • Able to read, write, and do simple math problems
  • Able to interpret, understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from the general public and management
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management
  • Has or willing to obtain a CA Food Handler’s Certificate
