About This Role:
The Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University invites applications for a full time, 12-month, Research Scientist (Non-Tenure Track Assistant Professor) position. This position is for a highly motivated individual who is interested in developing independent research. The individual is expected to have in depth hands-on skills in cellular and molecular biology, expertise in development of live-vectored and attenuated vaccines, track record in protein expression and purification using mammalian expression platforms, working with large animals (cows and pigs) and small animal models (mice and hamsters), and working with primary cells and cell lines. Skills in recombinant antibody and phage display technology, and expertise in antibody and Flow cytometry-based immune-readouts will be attractive. The research will entail testing efficacy of vaccine candidates for protection of hosts against several pathogens of interest such as African Swine Fever Virus, Japanese Encephalitis Virus, and HPAI in cattle. Efforts will also be directed at development of therapeutic antibodies against inflammatory molecules, and infectious and non-infectious targets. The individual is expected to be highly innovative and utilize contemporary knowledge to develop high value products.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD training in Molecular biology/Immunology/Vaccinology.
- Post-doctoral training in Immunology/Vaccinology.
- Hands-on experience generating live-vectored subunit vaccines, generation and affinity purification of recombinant proteins using mammalian cells/insect cells/yeast, conducting safety/immunogenicity and experimental vaccine efficacy studies in rodents, cattle and pigs, hands-on experience conducting cytotoxic T lymphocyte killing assays using chromium-release assay or other assays, and conducting EliSpot assays using lymphocytes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with analysis and interpretation of vaccine response data from swine and cattle.
- Proposal development.
- Development of lateral flow assay and adjuvants.
- Hands-on skills in generating and maintaining primary swine and bovine fibroblasts.
- Skill in bioinformatics and FACS.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Attention to details, neat, well organized and able to multi-task.
