As the Roe Room Supervisor, you will be a vital member at one of our Alaskan processing facilities responsible for overseeing all aspects of the roe processing operation, ensuring optimal efficiency, quality, and safety. This position will oversee the operation of the Roe Room department while ensuring the staff follow GMP and safety policies to produce a high-quality, ready-to-eat frozen roe product. The supervisor is also responsible for training new employees, troubleshooting equipment issues, and implementing process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
Essential Functions/Qualifications
The responsibilities of the position include the following:
- Work closely with Production Manager and Roe Room Lead to ensure all equipment is set and running properly daily.
- Supervise a crew of 45-100 employees of their job duties within the department.
- Train employees in proper working ergonomics in addition to their assigned tasks and specific techniques.
- Responsibilities in the roe room include but are not limited to: brine making, grading roe, packing finished roe, running equipment, agitation timing, salinity testing, record keeping, as well as thorough sanitation.
- Monitor inventory levels of roe and packaging materials. Place orders for supplies as needed.
- Oversee the maintenance and cleaning of processing equipment.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or breakdowns promptly.
- Effectively communicate with team members, supervisors, and other departments.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Make timely decisions to address challenges and maintain productivity.
- Set an example for the department staff in work ethic, safety protocol and attitude.
- Other duties as assigned to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.

- Roe Processing Knowledge: Deep understanding of the roe processing process, including equipment operation, quality standards, and safety protocols.

- Equipment Operation: Proficiency in operating various equipment used in roe processing, such as knives, sieves, and packaging machines.
- Food Safety and Hygiene: Adherence to strict food safety and hygiene standards.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required.
- 2 years’ experience in processing and packing frozen roe for Japanese/European/Domestic markets.
- Position may require driven machinery certifications such as a forklift which in turn requires a valid driver’s license.
- HACCP certification is a plus.
Work Environment and Schedule
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Position requires onsite presence at one of our Alaska processing facilities, and the ability to travel, including at times to remote locations.
Physical Demands
While performing the essential function and job duties associated with the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
