About This Role

The Kansas State University Department of Modern Languages seeks a dynamic individual for a full time (non-tenure-track) position as Teaching Assistant Professor of German and French. This nine-month position for AY 2025-2026 comes with the possibility for renewal pending job performance and budget. The Department is looking for a generalist with experience or interest in teaching German at all levels and the ability to teach French. Teaching responsibilities include teaching a total of seven courses over the academic year. In 2025-2026, this would include teaching five courses in German, ranging from German 1 to advanced undergraduate German courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, as well as two courses in French. Academic service responsibilities may include growing undergraduate programs in German and French, mentoring undergraduate research projects, implementing changes to language curriculum, participating in MA committees and exams, and contributing to section and departmental service initiatives including conversation tables and student recruitment. This position is benefits-eligible and begins in August 2025.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or ABD in German or French (linguistics or literature/culture) or a related
    field.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in German and English
  • Advanced proficiency in French
  • Expertise or interest in curriculum development and assisting with language
    program development, particularly with Open Educational Resources
  • Successful candidate will value multicultural perspectives in both teaching and
    research

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. obtained by August 2025
  • Commitment to active research profile

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time
    of employment.
