Responsibilities
Lilly Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Microbiologists:

  • Ensure reliability of our manufacturing and utility systems
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements
  • Maintain our facilities and processes in a state of compliance with US and global regulations
  • Manage projects
  • Design, develop, and evaluate product protection control strategies

The positions are entry-level Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Microbiologist positions in the Technical Services Manufacturing Sciences (TSMS) organization and will be in areas including science and technology and direct process support. The positions expose employees to the technology, science, and regulatory requirements for making commercialized life-saving medicine in therapeutic areas including but not limited to: diabetes, oncology, and endocrinology.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Microbiologists actively contribute to the TSMS organizations, building a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, and the role Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Microbiologists play in creating solutions for Eli Lilly and Company. Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Microbiologists interact with engineering, manufacturing, development, and other science professionals.

Employment opportunities are available in, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Parenteral Products (injectable)
  • Bulk Processing (small and large molecule)

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Use quality risk management principles to evaluate existing and proposed manufacturing processes and associated controls with respect to the potential for introduction of microbial, endotoxin and particulate contamination.
  • Develop and execute process and facility monitoring strategies that focus on areas of highest microbial risk.
  • Lead site aseptic self-inspection program including sharing of observations and recommendations for continuous improvement to manufacturing and support personnel.
  • Lead or actively contribute to the investigation of microbial related events including product quality impact assessments, root cause analysis and identifying corrective and preventive actions.
  • Analyze microbial and manufacturing data using statistical principles to identify trends, process upsets, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Create technical documents related to microbial related controls, measures, and training.
  • Continually educate self and others to drive improvements and stay current with regulatory expectations and industry trends.
  • Assess the impact proposed process changes and deviations may have on environmental monitoring and bioburden controls and develop appropriate actions required to ensure controls remain effective and compliant.

Basic Qualifications

  • Positions located in Indianapolis, IN or Lebanon, IN
  • Currently attending college and completion of an undergraduate BS in Microbiology by August 2025.
