SUMMARY

The function of the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor is responsible to maintain systems and equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules; restoring, repairing, rebuilding or replacing faulty or inoperative components and parts; supervising staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Directs the activities of the maintenance department.
  2. Plans and prepares pre-shift meetings, preventative maintenance schedules, spare parts, manpower needs.
  3. Trains new employees.
  4. Administers company policies for assigned department.
  5. Communicates with all levels of management, including Japanese staff.
  6. Deals with breakdowns and conducts problem solving / countermeasure activity.
  7. Motivates employees and resolves conflict.
  8. Evaluates employees’ performance.
  9. Aids in continuous improvement processes.
  10. Assists manager as necessary to accomplish all goals and missions of the department.
  11. Coaches and counsels team members on various aspects of their duties.
  12. Issues corrective action (discipline) to employees as appropriate.
  13. Maintain awareness and understand the roles and responsibilities regarding the environmental policies, management system, and objectives and targets by attending the required training. Perform all tasks in accordance with the EMS procedures and practices and minimize the impact of their activities on the environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Equipment Maintenance Supervisor carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Basic knowledge of TPS

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent problem solving / decision making skills

Ability to prioritize workload and balance multiple tasks

Previous Supervisory experience a plus

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Clear, concise written and verbal skills and problem solving skills required. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of team members.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Apply basic math functions to solve workplace problems, calculate percentage, rate, ratio, decimal and proportion, create and interpret basic graphs and charts commonly used in manufacturing, calculate rate, ratio, decimal and proportion, calculate rotational velocity equations (RPMs), calculate speeds, feeds, and horsepower requirements for machining.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Experience using Microsoft office systems, Excel and Word.

Experience using JD Edwards a plus.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written, to all levels of management.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED WORK HOURS

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are First Shift – 5:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 2nd Shift – 1:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or Third Shift – 9:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Occasional overtime throughout the week and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
