The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago seeks an experienced teacher of Japanese language to join and help grow its existing program. Responsibilities include both teaching and service duties. Teaching consists of six language courses across three quarters at all levels of the language. Service duties may include assisting with the training of course assistants; outreach and cultural activities; development of new curriculum; or assistance with student placement in the Japanese language. The position’s terms and conditions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University and the Service Employees International Union. Work Schedule: Full-time.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Japanese, Applied Linguistics or related field plus six years of experience in language instruction required. Proficiency in Japanese through an ACTFL at the Superior level or higher, demonstrated through interview or through receipt of an advanced degree earned in a Japanese-language context required. Required: 6 years teaching Japanese at a post-secondary level.
