Join us on a mission to save the planet!

Reversing the impact of climate change is one of the world’s biggest challenges. And businesses have a responsibility to lead the way. While individual consumer choices are important, over 80% of all the emissions reductions necessary for the world to reach Net-Zero, require business-level action. But despite the growing momentum and ambition from companies around the world to set Net-Zero goals, there are significant challenges to delivering on these ambitions. Business leaders don’t really know how they will get there. And the very first step, of getting emissions measurement right, is hard.

Terrascope is a smart carbon management and accounting platform that empowers corporations to build impactful decarbonisation programs, with a focus on the Land-Based Economy. We are on a journey to build digital tools and analytics, datasets and algorithms, and an ecosystem of technical expertise and partnerships needed for companies to optimise their climate strategy

Terrascope is backed by one of the world’s largest food and agri companies and global leader in climate action and sustainability. With their significant strategic advantage and secure funding, the venture is uniquely positioned to drive profit with purpose; driving decarbonisation in supply chains while generating outsized financial returns.

We are looking for a Decarbonisation Specialist to provide corporate decarbonization advice, from emissions measurement to data driven GHG reduction strategies and actions. This role will report into the Director of Sustainability and help shape Terrascope’s product offerings by sharing feedback from the frontlines and incubating new ideas.

In this role you will:

    • Advise on the GHG Protocol guidance and categories material to sector-specific businesses and applicable methodologies, with a focus on the upcoming Land Sector and Removals guidance
    • Engage with prospective clients and build trusted, long-term relationships
    • Think systemically to enable product, data and engineering teams to deliver within short timeframes
    • Evolve our product offerings through sector-specific research, pathways and initiatives
    • Research industries to build out tailored data needs (eg. performance indicator benchmarking, data regionalisation, decarbonisation strategies)
    • Stay up to date on relevant standards and global best practices in particular the upcoming GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals guidance and the SBTi Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) guidance
    • You will spend about 50% of your time supporting business development; 25% of your time on consulting engagements with existing customers, including data quality reviews, mentoring our carbon data analysts on best practices, and advisory services; and 25% of your time contributing to product feature and UX enhancements of the Terrascope platform.

    >

You should have:

    • 4+ years of relevant experience with an advanced degree in a relevant area (engineering, climate science, sustainability); with 2+ years of carbon accounting experience specifically
    • Industry-specific knowledge in one or more sectors: energy, transportation, construction and real estate, textiles, fast moving consumer goods, industrials and agriculture, food systems, land use and forestry
    • Deep carbon accounting and decarbonisation experience using global standards (GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, Scope 2 and Scope 3 guidance or similar)
    • Ability to work well under pressure, with fast turnarounds and bring an entrepreneurial mindset
    • Have a passion for influencing change and working with multinational enterprises to help them decarbonise operations and supply chains

    >

Even better if you are:

    • An entrepreneurial problem solver comfortable in managing risk and ambiguity
    • Thrive when working on complex problems with interdisciplinary teams
    • Able to speak Japanese or Spanish to liaise with clients
    • Comfortable working in a remote position as this is a fully remote role with a preferred location of Chicago, USA, to accommodate timezone

We’re committed to creating an inclusive environment for our strong and global team. We value diversity and foster a community where everyone can be his or her authentic self.
