As a 50/50 joint venture between Sony and Honda, SHM was established in Japan on September 28th, 2022, with over 200 employees in Tokyo. Sony Honda Mobility of America, situated in Culver City, California, was established in March 2023, where our dedicated team is working on introducing the electric vehicle, AFEELA, to the market. Position Summary
Sony Honda Mobility of America (SHMA) is seeking a Market Quality Engineer to play a key role in enhancing vehicle quality by analyzing market complaints and warranty claims. This role ensures customer feedback is effectively integrated into quality improvement initiatives while providing opportunities to expand technical knowledge and expertise. The ideal candidate will have a strong automotive background, experience in problem resolution, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to drive continuous improvements.
Job Responsibilities
- Monitor market complaints and warranty claims to identify potential design or manufacturing issues.
- Perform initial analysis of telematics data and customer complaints to detect vehicle-related problems.
- Utilize data insights to support evaluation and root cause analysis of emerging issues.
- Manage and maintain analysis equipment for accurate investigation of vehicle problems.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to conduct thorough investigations and identify problem areas.
- Assist in determining root causes and developing countermeasures for design and factory-related issues.
- Track and monitor the progress and effectiveness of implemented countermeasures.
- Compile and share technical reports, summaries, and findings in departmental meetings.
- Advocate for the voice of the customer to enhance overall vehicle quality and satisfaction.
- Coordinate and manage warranty reimbursement claims with the vehicle manufacturing company.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives for vehicle quality.
- Ensure accurate documentation of all investigations and quality improvement activities.
Qualifications for Position
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the automotive industry.
- Extensive knowledge of problem resolution and quality improvement methodologies.
- Strong technical understanding of automotive features and functions.
- Proven experience in creating technical and process documentation.
- Excellent ability to interpret and communicate complex technical issues.
- Hands-on approach to problem-solving and troubleshooting.
Preferred
- Previous experience at a Japanese company.
- Automotive experience strongly recommended (Honda experience a plus).
- Experience working with customer complaint data (warranty, field reports, dealer contacts, etc.).
- EV bumper-to-bumper experience.
- Field repair/support experience.
Additional Details
Location Transition: Initially based in Culver City, CA, then moving to Torrance, CA once the Southern California Delivery Center is completed in Fall 2025.
Work Arrangement: 90% in-office presence required.
Travel Requirements:
- Year 1: Up to 50% travel, including trips to Japan and Ohio.
- Year 2: Up to 25% travel.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $124,000-$138,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
