Location: Onboard cruise ship departing Japan (specific location may vary). All travel expenses (ie. international to Japan or domestic within Japan) will be covered.
Duration: Immediate start, duration of cruise. Dates are April 28 – May 4 and June 10 – June 23.
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled individual to join our team as a Translator and Medical Liaison onboard a cruise ship. The ideal candidate will be fluent in both Japanese and English, proficient in written and verbal communication, and possess a background in the medical field. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to provide translation/interpretation services in medical contexts.
Responsibilities:
- Provide translation/interpretation services between Japanese and English for passengers and crew members.
- Assist with onboard medical consultations and translate medical information between patients and medical staff.
- Facilitate communication between Japanese-speaking passengers and English-speaking crew members.
- Translate written materials, including signage, announcements, and medical documents.
- Serve as a cultural interpreter, helping to bridge language and cultural gaps between passengers and crew.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions, especially regarding medical matters.
- Collaborate with onboard medical team to ensure accurate communication and understanding of medical conditions and treatments.
- Assist with any additional translation or liaison duties as needed.
Requirements:
- Fluency in both Japanese and English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
- Professional experience as a translator or interpreter, preferably in a medical or healthcare setting.
- Background in the medical field, such as nursing, medical assisting, or related field, preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high-pressure situations.
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing schedules and responsibilities.
- Valid Japanese passport (or valid Japan visa) and ability to travel internationally.
- Medical clearance or willingness to undergo a medical examination prior to boarding.
