SUMMARY
The Warranty & Cost of Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing warranty claims and cost of quality within the PGS (Power Generation Services) organization. This role involves tracking, analyzing, and reporting on the financial impact of quality-related activities such as internal and external failures. This role works cross-functionally with Quality, Operations, Finance, and other departments (including those departments external to Power Generation Services) to ensure that quality initiatives are aligned with business objectives, optimize quality-related costs, and improve profitability. This role involves forecasting failure costs by analyzing trends in product failures, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and maintaining strong relationships with both internal stakeholders and external customers.
This position requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, an understanding of quality management systems, and the ability to communicate financial data to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Cost of Quality, Warranty, Reporting & Analysis
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive framework for tracking and reporting warranty and COQ, including all associated activities and costs such as prevention, appraisal, internal failures, and external failures.
- Analyze COQ data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement. Provide actionable insights to senior management to guide decision-making and improve financial performance.
- Produce regular reports (monthly, quarterly, annually) summarizing COQ metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), including cost breakdowns and financial impacts.
• Strategic Cost Management:
- Work with senior leadership to define cost reduction goals related to quality and lead initiatives aimed at reducing the cost of internal failures, external failures, and the costs associated with corrective actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Quality Assurance, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, etc.) to implement cost-effective quality management strategies and achieve organizational cost objectives.
- Monitor and track the ROI of quality improvement initiatives, ensuring that resources are being allocated effectively and that cost reductions are being realized.
• Cost Optimization and Process Improvement:
- Lead efforts to streamline quality-related processes and improve efficiency, particularly in areas that impact the cost of internal and external failures (e.g., rework, scrap, warranty claims).
- Identify and implement best practices for minimizing the costs of quality through continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Work with teams to reduce the number of defects, returns, and failures, while maintaining or improving product quality.
- Support streamlining warranty processes outside PGS. Including DOR identification for warranty events.
• Collaboration with Finance & Other Departments:
- Partner with the finance team to integrate COQ data with overall financial reporting and ensure accurate financial forecasting for quality-related costs.
- Support the development of annual budgets and forecasts for quality-related expenses.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and procurement to identify fleet risk items. Ensure that fleet issues are understood and accounted for in cost models, product lifecycle analysis, and forecasting.
• Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action:
- Ensure Root Cause Analysis investigations are started for quality events impacting cost of quality.
- Work closely with the quality team to ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively and monitor the impact on COQ.
• Training and Awareness:
- Educate employees at all levels about the financial impact of quality issues and the importance of quality control in reducing Warranty and COQ.
- Provide training on COQ metrics, data interpretation, and the financial implications of quality-related decisions.
• Supplier and External Failure Cost Management:
- Monitor the impact of external quality failures, such as warranty claims, returns, or supplier defects, and work with suppliers to reduce defect rates and associated costs.
- Assess and track the cost of supplier quality performance, collaborating with Procurement and Supplier Management teams to drive improvements and recoup cost.
• Continuous Improvement and Reporting Tools:
- Develop and refine tools and systems for tracking Warranty/COQ data across various departments and processes.
- Leverage technology, such as SAP/CRM/SharePoint/Other systems, to streamline data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Perform other such duties as may be required.

- Education and/or Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Industrial Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field. Minimum of five (5) years of professional work experience in quality management, cost analysis, or financial analysis. Professional certifications (e.g., Six Sigma Geen/Yellow/Black Belt, CQE, etc.) is a plus.
- Language Skills:English is required. Spanish and Japanese are highly desirable
- Mathematical Skills:Ability to perform necessary calculations to satisfy job requirements.
- Reasoning Ability:Ability to make judgment decisions based on specifications or technical requirements. Ability to influence decisions and compel action in a complex environment. Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data analysis, financial modeling). Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and COQ management tools desirable. Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is a plus.
