We are hiring leads now at Costa Mesa location!

The produce department lead must have previous supervisor experience working at a grocery store in the produce department. This will also include having experience cutting, prepping, and packing fruits and vegetables. Experience with ordering and managing inventory is also required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned):
• Assists the Store Manager with all Produce Department responsibilities.
• Oversee all Produce Department responsibilities including but not limited to, customer service, management, ordering, receiving products, scheduling, and paperwork.
• Under the direction of the Store Manager, they are responsible for in-service training for all Produce department employees. This training may include documentation and covering proper organic standard procedures as they relate to cutting, preparing, packing, displaying and storing Produce products.
• Assist the Store Manager with maintaining the appropriate profit margins in accordance with the approved preset budget for the Produce department. This entails but is not limited to: sales goals for the Produce department, cost of goods, expenses, price changes and waste management.
• Help manage costs by controlling shrink and theft.
• Responsible for maintaining freshness standards throughout the department, by following proper receiving, processing, packaging, pricing, signage, displaying, and rotation of a variety of items.
• Lead a team to brainstorm ideas to deliver the finest quality of products, highest level of service, and the greatest experience our customers will receive.
• Collaborate with the Merchandise department and store management team to create unique and seasonal offerings or promotions.
• Create a work schedule for the Produce department and strictly follow company and legal requirements about rest breaks and meal breaks.
• Encourage a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale.
• Helps manage costs by controlling shrink and theft.
• Consistently checks the display cases to ensure the products are clean, neat, organized, visible, plentiful, well-stocked, and properly rotated.
• Handles customer complaints in such a manner to assure customer satisfaction.
• Demonstrate advanced product knowledge; maintain awareness of new products and regularly incorporates new products into the overall product mix.
• Assists Store Manager and EHS team with safety meetings or trainings and assures that all the team members fall within accordance to Cal OSHA’s requirements.
• Supporting store management team to document all department meetings and obtain employees signatures.
• Follow the employee handbook at all times, especially on service standards and appearance.
• At all times, meets and exceeds Tokyo Central store standards in service, quality, and cleanliness.

Requirements

Basic Requirements
• Be able to adapt to different store environments during the training period. May be assigned to different stores within Tokyo Central stores and our Central Kitchen.
• Be able to demonstrate small team management abilities. Team sizes can be from 0~ 10 employees. Management skills are required for the Produce department lead and assistant department lead positions. The overall direction, coordination, and evaluation will be reviewed. Management activities include but are not limited to: Interviewing; Training Employees; Planning, Assigning, and Directing Work; Addressing Complaints and Resolving Problems with employees and customers.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a produce supervisor in a middle to large scale high-end market. Current Tokyo Central Produce department leader/assistant department lead are welcome to apply.
• Strong knowledge of Produce team procedures and policies. A thorough understanding of different types of produce, their seasonality, and quality knowledge while ensuring proper inventory management for the freshness of produce.
• Ability to read and interpret English documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to use English to write routine reports and correspondences. Ability to speak English effectively before groups such as our customers and/or employees. The ability to speak Japanese and/or Spanish is not required but can be a huge plus.
• Basic mathematical skills are required. This includes, but not limited to, the ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to add, subtract, divide, and multiply using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals are necessary.
• The ability to apply general reasoning is required. This position needs the leader to be able to interpret a variety of instructions that can be in the form of written, oral, diagrams, or scheduled forms. They need to have the ability to resolve conflicts resulting in a win-win situation. They need to have the ability to analyze a variety of situations. think things through, and create a solution and implement a solution.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly need to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee will occasionally be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold, to electrical shock, and be at risk of burning. The noise level in the work environment will usually be loud. Due to the duties, safety will need to be followed.

Minimum USD hourly rate: 22.00
Maximum USD hourly rate: 25.00
