FAQs: How To Use The Job Board
Most of these questions pertain to better searching on the job board for Japanese jobs in the US, NihongoJobs.com. If you’re just beginning your search for a Japanese job in the US, then you may want to start here: Job Seekers.
Add a hyphen before a term you’d like to avoid as if you want to subtract it.
For example: assistant, -sushi.
In this example, you can look for assistant jobs, but remove any that may be at a restaurant.
Be careful, though, as removing key terms may have you missing out on some roles that happen to have one of the terms somewhere in the company or job description, ie. a marketing/design job that just so happens to promote Japanese culture, including sushi.
Add a comma after the first term you are searching for and then add your second term.
For example: administrative assistant, banking.
In this example, the search results will look for both terms or phrases.
Put parentheses around a phrase.
For example: “administrative assistant.”
In this example, the phrase allows for a more narrow search because otherwise you may get a combination of “assistant” jobs and jobs with the word “administrative” in their job descriptions.
This will depend upon your device and browser, but in general, here are some tips. MacBook: control + click. iPhone/Android: tap and hold the link. Windows: right-click with your mouse.
Sure! Just hit the red “Reset” button located at the bottom right-hand side of the search box.
There are 3 ways you can get notified of new ads, which are helpful because the job board gets updated on a daily basis.
1) Daily, weekly, or monthly job alerts that you can customize: https://nihongojobs.com/job-alerts/.
2) The weekly Ikigai Connections newsletter that shares the Featured job ads, partner job ads, and other US-based US/Japan community-related news helpful for job seekers. View back issues and sign up here: https://bit.ly/JS-newsletter.
3) If you use LinkedIn, sign up for the weekly LinkedIn newsletter that focuses on the Featured job ads.
The job search is absolutely frustrating! But one way to start is to search for jobs in your current location and see what ads are available. If you create a job alert for this location, you can get notified of new ads that come in, which will help with your research.
Another idea to start brainstorming ways to use your Japanese language/cultural skills is to create a job alert for “all job ads” and see what new opportunities come in. You will see some ads that are a “heck no” for you, and you will start seeing ads that deal with companies, industries or skills that you never would have considered. Sign up for alerts here: https://nihongojobs.com/job-alerts/.
You can also learn about some other resources here: https://nihongojobs.com/job-seekers.

Excellent; sounds like you are interested in a Featured ad! You can learn all about that here: https://nihongojobs.com/employers. Basically, even though your ad already shows up here on the job board, it will help to post a brand new one because Ikigai Connections asks you for some particular questions that will help promote your job ad to this niche group of candidates.
