Overview of Position
Position Summary:

The Academic Intervention Specialist / Levy & Testing Coordinator at Chief Sealth Int’l High School supports student achievement through targeted academic interventions (e.g., credit recovery), test coordination, and oversight of levy-funded programs. This role serves as a key liaison between school, district, city partners, and community-based organizations to ensure the effective delivery of academic supports, compliance with the City of Seattle’s Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise (FEPP) Levy requirements, and smooth administration of all major standardized assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic Intervention & Student Support

  • Participate in MTSS and Student Support Team meetings to align academic supports and plan next steps.
  • Ensure students are appropriately scheduled into courses that meet graduation and pathway requirements.

Levy Coordination

  • Coordinate all aspects of FEPP-funded programming, including compliance, reporting, goal tracking, and summer school.
  • Collect and analyze intervention data for Levy-funded staff to assess effectiveness and progress toward levy performance goals.
  • Maintain the FEPP Levy Workbook with up-to-date data, intervention progress, and outcomes; attend all Levy-directed meetings and trainings; coordinate and host quarterly site visits with DEEL consultants and partners.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for DEEL consultants and staff.
  • Maintain communication with the principal to ensure strategic alignment and integration of services.

Credit Retrieval Oversight

  • Manage the school’s online credit retrieval program: renew contracts, create virtual classrooms, modify content as needed, and assign final grades.
  • Track enrollment and completion data using a shared tracking system with counselors, case managers, and administrators.
  • Communicate student progress and final outcomes with school counselors to ensure accurate credit recording.

Assessment & Testing Coordination

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate all state and national assessments (e.g., SBA, WCAS, WIDA, SAT, PSAT)
  • Serve as the school liaison to the district testing office and ensure adherence to testing protocols.
  • Schedule testing sessions, assign staff roles, and manage secure materials.
  • Oversee and deliver testing accommodations for students with IEPs and 504 plans.
  • Communicate testing timelines and updates with students, families, and staff.

World Language Credit Program

  • Collaborate with the district World Language department to provide multilingual students with access to language proficiency testing for credit.

Assists teachers in planning and implementing effective academic intervention strategies and learning activities; develops formative assessments for student learning; coordinates/conducts intervention activities with school intervention teams to identify student risk factors in the areas of academic and social/emotional domains; coordinates intervention strategies and professional development activities for teachers, and acts as a liaison between teachers, program specialists and instructional coaches.

NOTE: employees who primarily provide direct academic intervention to students, should be in the role of Academic Intervention Spec – Reading/Math, not Academic Intervention Spec – PD.

  • Coordinates professional development for teachers.
  • Acts as liaison between teachers and program specialists and instructional coaches.

Typical Qualifications

Education
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in a major content area.

Preferred:
Master’s degree and three (3) years of successful teaching experience, and one (1) year successful educational coaching experience or related experience mentoring/coaching adults.

Experience
Required:
Five (5) years successful teaching experience. One (1) year successful educational coaching experience or related experience mentoring/coaching adults.

Preferred:
Three (3) years successful teaching experience. One (1) year successful educational coaching experience or related experience mentoring/coaching adults.

Certifications & Licenses
Required:
Valid Washington State teacher certification.

Preferred:
Credentials in one or more of the core areas (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) preferred.
