We are currently seeking a Senior Accountant – Japan Operations, based in our Atlanta office, who will support Japan-related financial reporting and accounting operations. This position requires business-level fluency in Japanese and English (reading, writing, and speaking), and close collaboration with our Tokyo-based finance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting expertise and demonstrate the ability to contribute to the integrity and transparency of Mujin’s global financial reporting.
Position Description
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare and review monthly and quarterly accounting entries for Japan operations in accordance with JGAAP and internal standards
- Assist with the preparation of statutory financial reports and schedules to support local Japanese regulatory filings
- Support consolidation processes by preparing account reconciliations, currency translation, and elimination entries
- Maintain the general ledger and supporting subledgers; ensure timely and accurate close of books for Japan operations
Audit & Compliance
- Support internal and external audit processes, including preparing schedules, responding to auditor inquiries, and validating audit trail documentation
- Help ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal control standards
- Assist with documentation and implementation of control procedures specific to Japan operations
Cross-Border Coordination
- Collaborate closely with Tokyo-based accounting and finance staff, bridging time zone and language gaps
- Liaise with cross-functional teams including Tax, Treasury, and FP&A to ensure alignment of financial data and reporting
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in financial reporting across local and global teams
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial processes
- Participate in ERP enhancements or process standardization projects in collaboration with the broader finance team
- Maintain proper documentation of accounting policies and procedures applicable to the Japan entity
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA or equivalent certification preferred
- 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in a multinational or Japan/US cross-border environment
- Business-level fluency in Japanese and English (written, spoken, and reading) is required
- Ability to work daily from Mujin’s US office in Suwanee, GA
- Strong understanding of JGAAP, IFRS, or US GAAP accounting principles
- Experience with general ledger systems, financial close processes, and account reconciliations
- Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze and interpret financial data accurately
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with sensitivity to cultural and operational differences across regions
Desired Skills
- Experience supporting Japan statutory audits or consolidation reporting
- Familiarity with intercompany accounting, transfer pricing policies, or FX revaluation
- ERP or accounting system implementation experience
- Exposure to engineering, robotics, or software industries
Work Environment & Travel
- Travel Requirement: Less than 5%
- Prolonged periods of computer use and sedentary work
- Ability to work extended hours when coordinating across Japan-U.S. time zones
