Proactively scout market trends, customer needs, and capital investment opportunities to strategically position Toyota Tsusho to service existing and future customers in the power and distribution transformer markets. Drive sales growth, strengthen customer relationships, and support strategic investment decisions to enhance manufacturing and service capabilities.
What You’ll Do
- Sales Leadership and Customer Development:
- Drive back-to-back sales for the U.S. and Canadian markets, managing customer relationships and transactions from order to cash collection, with a focus on power and distribution transformer OEMs.
- Represent the Mexico manufacturing center, promoting slitted steel and expanding electrical motor core sales while addressing local operational challenges.
- Expand sales into new product lines, including wound cores (unicores), amorphous wound cores for high-efficiency 3-phase transformers, and stacked cores (laminations) for large-scale transformers.
- Generate purchase orders based on customer POs, forecasts, inventory levels, safety stock, and lead times.
- Oversee contract administration and order execution, collaborating with sales and logistics assistants.
- Coordinate purchases with TSP/TTC/TAI Centralized Purchasing Department as required.
- Market Scouting and Strategic Development:
- Conduct market research to understand customer purchasing trends, supplier capabilities, and competitive landscapes in the electrical steel and transformer markets.
- Establish and maintain relationships with power and distribution transformer customers, attending trade shows and engaging in direct customer discussions to identify needs and opportunities.
- Assess market potential for fully stacked cores (currently produced in India and Turkey), testing demand in the U.S. and Mexico, and evaluating tariff impacts to determine optimal manufacturing locations in North America.
- Explore strategic partnerships with U.S. electrical steel service centers, large transformer companies for on-site slitting equipment, or opportunities to relocate equipment from Mexico to the U.S.
- Provide insights on emerging technologies and customer preferences.
- Investment Support:
- Assist the metal planning department in identifying investment opportunities, such as partnering with electrical steel mills, establishing U.S. service centers, or supporting new manufacturing investments.
- Support cost analysis, lead generation, and feasibility studies for equipment transfers from Mexico or new capital investments.
- Operational and Cultural Compliance:
- Adhere to TAI’s business culture, ethics, and conservative guidelines for contracts, credit, and risk management.
- Oversee risk management, including credit applications, claims settlements, and reporting.
- Recruit, train, and evaluate junior sales talent to support account development and gross profit growth.
- Manage junior sales team to support account development. Supervision of 2-4 sales team associates.
