Job Description

The Department of History at Old Dominion University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of modern East Asian history and digital technology to begin July 2026.

This is an annual ten-month tenure-track appointment. Candidates will teach introductory and thematic courses in premodern and modern East Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and/or transnational) history at the undergraduate level, along with graduate seminars in the candidate’s area(s) of specialty, while also maintaining an active research agenda. Candidates will teach at an annual 3-3 load and will be expected to serve on departmental-, college-, and university-level committees.

All areas of specialization will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates who also have demonstrated significant research and/or teaching experience involving one or more relevant digital technologies-including but not limited to: artificial intelligence and machine learning; GIS, mapping, and data visualization; extended/immersive reality; digital archiving; corpus analysis; and/or digital storytelling-and are able to contribute actively to ODU’s Forward-Focused Digital Transformation Initiative.
