About the Role

We’re seeking a Configuration Engineer to play a key role in defining, structuring, and sustaining the configuration of complex power products. In this role, you will lead the transition from document-centric engineering to a modern, part-based Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) approach while partnering closely with design engineering, proposals, supply chain, and project teams.

This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys systems thinking, process improvement, and collaborating across multiple disciplines to create consistency, accuracy, and traceability in product configuration.

Key Responsibilities
Product Configuration & PLM Development

  • Develop part definitions and BOM structures for all power products, including components, features, and selectable options.
  • Build and maintain product configuration data within PLM/ALM systems to ensure lifecycle traceability.
  • Lead the engineering organization in transforming to PLM-based methodologies and structured configuration practices.
  • Create and update documentation, instructional guides, and process materials for PLM adoption and training.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with design engineering to ensure accurate product applicability and alignment with technical requirements.
  • Support proposal teams by matching available configurations with customer requirements to maximize reuse.
  • Partner with supply chain to integrate product data with ERP and improve end-to-end configuration accuracy.
  • Facilitate change management by documenting and communicating configuration updates.

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Identify opportunities to improve configuration workflows, accuracy, and standardization.
  • Implement PLM best practices to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Assist with ISO 9001 audits and ensure compliance with internal/external requirements.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide training to internal teams on product options and configuration structures.
  • Support technical analyses and contribute to commercial, sales, and marketing functions.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings, including sessions within Japanese business hours (2-3 times per month).
  • Travel 5-10% annually for customer or project site visits.

Job Requirements

Qualifications
Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (BSME, BSEE, Industrial, Systems, or related field).
  • 4+ years of relevant engineering experience (or equivalent combination of education/experience).
  • Strong understanding of engineering design properties and their impact on industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Acrobat).
  • Ability to understand technical drawings, specifications, schematics, and structured configuration data.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present concepts to cross-functional teams.

Preferred

  • Hands-on experience with PLM/ALM systems (Teamcenter, Windchill, Enovia, etc.).
  • Experience supporting organizational change management initiatives.
  • Familiarity with engineering disciplines used in industrial plant integration (mechanical, electrical, controls, etc.).
  • Experience supporting ISO compliance or audits.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Strong problem-solving, reasoning, and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to collaborate, continuously improve processes, and contribute to a high-performance team culture.
