The Department of Asian Languages and Literatures at Carleton College invites applications for a part-time visiting faculty appointment in Japanese Studies, at the rank of instructor or assistant professor, beginning September 1, 2026. This is a two-term appointment with a teaching load of 3 Japanese language courses in Carleton’s Fall 2026 term (September to November) and Winter 2027 term (January to March). The position is subject to a possibility of being extended to include 2 more Japanese language courses in the Spring 2027 term (March to June), making 5 Japanese language courses total. Candidates must at least have an M.A. degree in Japanese Studies, Japanese Linguistics, Teaching Japanese as a Second Language, or a related field with native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and English. Experiences in teaching undergraduates in North America are desirable.

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $36,900 – $39,345. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
