Description

JAPANMART, an authentic Japanese specialty grocery and food market opening soon in Los Angeles, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Store Manager to oversee daily operations. This includes, but is not limited to, hiring, managing and directing of associates to ensure exceptional guest services and reach optimal financial goals.

Work Location: The official work location for this position will be at 1107 S Baldwin Ave Ste. B, Arcadia, CA 91007, which is currently under construction. Until construction is completed, this role will be temporarily based at 25 E Foothill Blvd, Arcadia, CA 91006.
Shift & Schedule: Weekdays, Weekends, Holidays. *Note: Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on business needs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all daily store operations to ensure smooth and efficient business flow
  • Staff scheduling, attendance management, and labor cost optimization
  • Ordering, inventory control, stock rotation, and vendor coordination
  • Hiring, onboarding, training, evaluation, and staff development
  • Customer service management, complaint handling (from online platforms and in-person), and issue resolution
  • Communication and regular reporting with head office and ownership
  • Sanitation management, health department compliance, and safety supervision
  • Cost control, budgeting support, sales performance tracking, and profit improvement
  • Quality assurance for products, food, and overall store presentation
  • Coordination and performance management of in-store food tenants and vendors
  • Implementation of promotions, seasonal campaigns, and in-store marketing
  • Point-of-Sale (POS) system administration,including system setup, configuration, and ongoing maintenance; preparation of daily sales and financial reports; cash handling and reconciliation; and implementation of loss prevention procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, labor laws, and local regulations
  • Supporting new product launches and special events
  • Leadership in creating a positive team culture and high-service standards

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 3-years of experience in retail, grocery, and food & beverage management preferred
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Conversational proficiency in spoken and written Japanese
  • Knowledge of financial, budgetary, accounting and computational practices
  • Proficient in a variety of technology systems including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook) and ability to learn and adapt to new systems quickly
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Food Protection Manager Certification

COMPENSATION:

  • 8-Week Probation Period: $25/hour
  • Salary: $70,000 – $74,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and other factors.

ADA STATEMENT:

While performing duties, counter areas are often hot with steam from steam table and food vapors. Workspace is restricted and employees are generally expected to remain standing for long periods of time. Employees are expected to prepare hot and cold foods, safely use knives and other kitchen equipment, and work quickly while maintaining accuracy and quality standards. Employees must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, stand for up to four hours, and reach across counter tops measured at 36 inches to serve customers. Kitchen environments may be hot and noise levels are usually high; storage space is limited and shelving is high. Employees must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment, have effective verbal communication skills, ability to adapt to a dynamic environment with changing priorities, and manage challenging or high-pressure situations with composure.
