Summary
A well-established Japanese-affiliated trading company specializing in engineering plastics is seeking an Outside Sales Representative to support its growing customer base in the automotive and manufacturing sectors. This position involves regular in-person client visits across the Midwest region and focuses on long-term B2B account management. While Japanese language proficiency is not required, a strong understanding of Japanese business culture is highly preferred.
Essential Duties
- Manage and maintain strong relationships with Tier 1 and Tier 2 customers
- Conduct regular business trips (approximately once a week, 1-2 nights) to Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky
- Coordinate delivery schedules and inventory with internal and external logistics teams
- Provide product support and pricing information for a wide range of plastic resin products (500+ SKUs)
- Prepare quotes, handle order processing, and resolve delivery issues
- Collaborate with Japan-based suppliers and U.S. internal departments
- Maintain customer records in CRM and generate activity reports
- Participate in occasional trade shows and internal company events
Working Hours, Working Style
- 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
- Full-time, exempt
- On-site with regular regional travel (Midwest U.S.)

- Travel includes Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky
Salary/Benefit
Base Salary:
- Recent graduates: $45,000-$50,000
- 2-3 years of full-time work experience: $50,000-$55,000
- 8-10 years of professional experience: $60,000-$80,000+
- Note: Compensation is primarily based on total years of professional work experience rather than specific industry background.
- Bonuses:
- Two guaranteed annual bonuses (May and December, approx. 0.5 months each)
- Performance-based bonus in September (typically 0.8+ months; historically always paid, including during COVID)
- Benefits:
- Health insurance: $1/month employee contribution (includes family coverage; company covers majority)
- 401(k): 4% company match
- Relocation assistance available
Holidays
11 company-paid holidays per year (aligned with Japanese-affiliated clients like Toyota Group)
Paid Time Off:
- 5 days granted after 6 months of employment, 10 days annually thereafter
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum 2 years of professional work experience (industry-specific experience not required)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Understanding of Japanese business culture (e.g., JET Program, prior experience in Japan or with Japanese clients) is highly desirable
- Japanese language ability is a plus but not required
- Preference given to candidates with a stable career history and long-term commitment mindset
