The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is situated on 16 acres of highly maintained Japanese gardens. The Morikami, with its unique gardens and collections, is one of Palm Beach County’s most treasured cultural attractions. The work not only requires technical skill in carpentry, but also the ability to showcase a high level of craftsmanship featuring traditional Japanese garden structures and exhibition furniture.
Performs skilled work requiring rough/finish carpentry in all phases of construction at the journey-level. Performs alterations, repair/maintenance of museum exhibition garden furniture, gates, bridges, benches, garden stairways, concrete forms, wood, and bamboo fixtures. Works from blueprints to order material and fabricates major projects using Japanese aesthetics. Uses standard trade practices and all hand/bench/power-driven tools and machinery.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of four (4) years of experience in the major elements of the trade that includes rough and finish carpentry.
PREFERENCE FOR : Experience reading blueprints/construction plans; completion of an approved apprenticeship program in carpentry; training/understanding of Japanese carpentry function and form.
