Scientific Communications and Information Sciences is seeking a Drug Vocabularies Steward with excellent communications skills and a passion for healthcare and technology. As a key member of a team of data stewards and technical experts, the Drug Vocabularies Steward will focus on the day-to-day activities related to curation of routine terminology requests and data quality. These activities ensure the integrity and reliable operation of a database of shared scientific vocabulary data that is used across the research division.
Primary activities include, but are not limited to:
- Be a key team member in implementing, maintaining, and advancing scientific information stewardship services to enable data accessibility, data analysis, and data integration activities across the drug discovery and development pipeline.
- Provide drug domain expertise and day-to-day operations for drug terminologies (generic names, trade names, WHO ATC therapeutic classes) including:
- Responding in a timely manner to requests from global users for the addition of new drug terms and clarification on the use of existing terms in the drug vocabularies.
- Researching and determining new drug terms using online databases, authoritative websites, scientific papers, & other references for drug terminology (including those in foreign languages) following internal standards for term syntax and source selection.
- Adding drug term data to the vocabulary authoring system and managing monthly vocabulary changes.
- Submitting requests for new drug terms and/or changes to existing terms along with authoritative, verifiable sources for inclusion or change in the WHO Drug Dictionary.
- Mapping internal drug dictionary terms to WHO Drug Dictionary terms.
- Create and maintain content documentation, operating procedures, and training materials.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and quality, implementing changes as appropriate.
Qualification:

Education:
Degree in a scientific, medical, or library science discipline plus library, pharma/biotech, or healthcare industry experience – bachelor’s and 5+ years of experience, Masters/PhD, and 3+ years of experience.
Required:
- Experience with drug terminologies (US and International) especially WHO Drug Dictionary, and an understanding of the ATC classification system.
- Strong information searching skills across diverse data sources.
- Experience in reference data management (including systems and processes), data standards and business rules, provenance, and stewardship.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good customer service skills (handling requests for information in a timely and professional manner)
- Team player yet able to work independently with minimal direction.
- Proficiency with Microsoft tools, especially fluency with Excel.
- Attention to detail.
- Capable of balancing and prioritizing multiple tasks.
- Excellent work ethics
- Focused on delivering quality effort.
Preferred:
- Broad understanding of drug discovery, drug development and research processes, clinical data coding and experience working within a regulated environment
- Competency in searching non-English drug resources (for example, Korean, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, German), is knowledgeable about alternative drugs (Herbal Homeopathic, Ayurvedic, Kampo and Traditional Chinese Medicine [TCM]), and is familiar with chemotherapy regimens and differences in vaccine products.
- Ability to understand data requests from a clinical data encoding point of view but with the objectivity to execute the data request in a standardized way.
- Knowledge about what constitutes an authoritative source for drug information.
*NOTE*: 1 year assignment with possibility of extension. Hybrid assignment(3 days/week onsite). Work Location: Upper Gwynedd, PA or Rahway, NJ.
