Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a Japanese Lecturer who is passionate about student success and global engagement. In this role, you’ll teach a diverse student population using a range of instructional formats and evidence-based practices, while collaborating with a supportive department committed to language learning in real-world and cross-cultural contexts. The Japanese Program plays an important role in preparing students to thrive academically, professionally, and personally, offering meaningful opportunities to connect with both local and global communities. With a consistent 15-credit teaching load each semester, this position offers the chance to make a lasting impact in a dynamic, student-centered environment while contributing to a welcoming and mission-driven institution.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials, including examinations, course outlines, syllabi, visual aids, and presentations.
  • Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups through lectures, discussions, conferences, demonstrations, field trips, individualized instruction, and other appropriate methods. Evaluates instruction and learning through the use of written, oral, and performance tests.
  • Maintains a student-oriented approach to education. Recommends students for advancement and graduation. Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records regarding student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up. Establishes and maintains regular office hours and advises students during these office hours as well as at other times, as needed. Actively engages students in lectures, discussions, and laboratories.
  • Fosters and engages in collegial relations with the community. Promotes diversity on campus by serving on relevant committees, developing curriculum, and participating in relevant programs.
  • Assists advisers, the department chair, program coordinator, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a master’s degree in a related field to the coursework being taught. Demonstrated successful teaching at the college or university level is required.
