OVERVIEW

The Tire and Wheel Division within MEI, installs and maintains the Joint Venture (JV) equipment for Modular Assembly Innovations (Great Lakes Assembly (GLA), Gulf Shore Assemblies (GSA) and Indiana Assemblies (IA).

The Tire and Wheel Manager plays a critical leadership role, providing strategic and technical oversight for Engineering and Maintenance within the Tire and Wheel Department at GSA. This position is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and maintenance of current equipment and associated systems. The Manager leads the development and execution of technical initiatives, driving continuous improvement across departmental operations. This role oversees all aspects of the department’s technology function, including process engineering, maintenance, equipment reliability, automation, controls, and project management. Additionally, the Tire and Wheel Manager is accountable for identifying, recommending, and implementing enhancements to engineering and maintenance practices. These efforts are aimed at maximizing operational efficiency, improving system performance, and supporting the department’s long-term strategic objectives.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (including but not limited to)

  • Lead & mentor MEI staff for Gulf Shore Assemblies.
  • Demonstrate and Facilitate safe practices, procedures and COP.
  • Embrace and promote core company philosophies and objectives
  • Daily monitoring of safety and quality practices
  • Representative of the organization to the customer, Associates and community, during and after business hours
  • Maintain a positive work environment
  • Promote teamwork and coordinate operational activities through planning with department leaders to ensure all objectives are met
  • Monitor annual budget and prepare monthly variance analysis
  • Approve and monitor process and resource requirements while balancing the budget requirements with production requirements
  • Work hours required to achieve daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly activities
  • Implement cost strategy controls over capital operating expenditures, manpower expense, space utilization, and equipment management
  • Develop and monitor overall department performance for production, safety and quality standards (KPI’s)
  • Facilitate team development and training
  • Provide direction, development and leadership to team members along with period performance evaluations to provide constructive feedback
  • Develop positive relationships with customers
  • Develop and Facilitate department business plan strategies to meet corporate short- and long-term goals, including business development and evolution
  • Project management and guidance as needed
  • Develop (3) year strategic plan for department
  • Promote associate involvement and appreciation
  • Other Duties as Assigned by Leadership

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS)

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • BA/BS in related Engineering field or equivalent experience (preferred)
  • 10+ years working for just-in-time manufacturing facilities
  • Provide technical and mechanical instruction and guidance
  • PLC programming a strong plus – AB and Mitsubishi
  • Experience utilizing CMMS software
  • Strong knowledge of equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Proven successful leadership experience
  • Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Prior experience working with Japanese companies and knowledge of “Honda Philosophy” a plus.
  • Demonstrate positive labor relations skills with the ability to develop effective relationships and provide leadership
  • Excellent communication & presentation skills – both written and verbal
  • Ability to establish priorities and multi-task
  • Ability to promote a continuous improvement approach to process & business practices
  • Experience in the following is a PLUS: Kaizen, Six Sigma, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, etc.
  • Working experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is a must
  • Leverage technology and know-how to create efficiencies and streamline focus on quality, service and safety
  • Exceptional negotiation skills
